The Rosebud Police Department is down a patrol car after an officer struck a cow as he was leaving an early morning accident.

The officer responded to an accident involving a semitrailer on Highway 77 on the Falls County line sometime after 1 a.m. today. The semi hit some cows that escaped through a broken fence.

The officer then hit another cow on his way back from the accident. He wasn’t seriously injured, but his patrol car was totalled, Rosebud police said.

The department is waiting for its insurance company to assess the vehicle’s damage. Until the department can buy a new car, the Rosebud police are are down to one cruiser.
