Athens offensive lineman Cameron Bailey did not sign. He signed with a junior college.
9:42 PM: Baylor gets another hometown signing as DB Orion Stewart inks it with the Bears for next season.
Stewart told us that Baylor was his No. 1 choice all along as a hometown school, so when they offered him a scholarship earlier this week, he jumped on it.
He also said he's looking forward to playing with former Midway standout Ahmad Dixon, who was like a "big brother" to him with the Panthers a couple of years ago.
Another Panther went Division I as Shakiel Randolph signed a letter of intent with SMU as well. Randolph said that SMU's combination of academic prestige and an up-and-coming program were big selling points for him.
Other football signings for Midway included Courtney Washington to Trinity Valley and a trio of Panthers to Cisco: Gerron Dewberry, Adam Deleon and Tevell Hardin.
In other Division I sports, Jazzmin Babers (volleyball, Texas A&M) and Aleah Davis (soccer, UTEP) signed letters of intent.
Patrick Herbelin will stay in Waco and play baseball for MCC. Other Midway signings include: Monique Miller with Navarro for softball, Jacob Brendemuehl with Ottawa (Kan.) University for tennis and Reid Carlisle with Belhaven University in Jackson, MIss. for golf.
9:35 PM: Reicher players DE Lincoln Plsek (Minnesota) and TE Jordan Smith (Kansas) have signed, as expected.
As Smith signed, his gathered family yelled out "Rock chalk Jayhawks!"
Smith commented that although he was worried about going to Kansas, the recent head-coaching hire of offensive-minded Charlie Weis was a "blessing in disguise."
Video: Michael Starts signs with Texas Tech; Trey Ridge signs with UMHB
9 AM: Our number one Centex recruit, La Vega standout Michael Starts, has just signed with Texas Tech.
Starts (pictured at right), a 6-4, 275-pound defensive tackle, is a Rivals.com four-star recruit. A member of our Super Centex team, the lineman was invited to the prestigious the U.S. Army All-American Bowl earlier this year.
Also at La Vega, Trey Ridge has signed a letter of intent with UMHB.
8:55 PM: Just got word from Connally: Football signings from Adrian Baker (Eastern New Mexico), John Holt (Cisco) and Jeremiah Payne (Midwestern St.).
Also, Connally's talented Paula Smith signed to play volleyball and do track at Coppin State. (She's not a bad b-ball player, either.)
8:17 AM: Some more nuggets from Waco High on signing day:
Will Hines talked about his commitment switch from Missouri to Arkansas, saying that he felt more comfortable with the Razorbacks. And he said he loves to compete, so playing in the SEC, college football's premier conference, is a great fit for him.
He's looking forward to playing cornerback in Fayetteville, the same position where he starred with the Lions.
On the Darrell Harris front, Waco High coach Danny Ramsey said nothing's going to happen today, but he'll end up going somewhere.
Harris (pictured at right) visited Lamar last weekend, Ramsey said, and is currently looking at I-AA (sorry, FBS) schools like Sam Houston. Ramsey also commented that signing day changes frequently can open up spots, so it's hard to predict right now where Harris might end up.
Harris had a magnificent senior season in which he broke the school rushing record with 2,567 yards and was named our Super Centex Offensive Player of the Year.
The 5-foot-11, 200-pound Harris has two scholarship offers on the table, from UT-San Antonio and Cisco junior college.
Video: Will Hines signs with Arkansas
8:02 AM: It's official — Waco High defensive back Will Hines (pictured at right) has signed with Arkansas.
Rivals.com rates Hines, who’s listed at 6-2, 180 pounds, as a three-star recruit and the No. 35 cornerback nationally in the 2012 class. He’s also listed as the No. 62 overall recruit in Texas.
Hines played corner almost exclusively at Waco High. He had 34 tackles and an interception for the 7-4 Lions this year, who shared a district title and reached the bi-district round of the playoffs.
7:30 AM: Check back here at wacotrib.com throughout the day as local players sign with colleges. The signing ceremonies we've heard about are at left, and our lists of expected signess are below.
We'll be updating this article constantly throughout the day, so check back often.
