What
Parallel Bible that includes verses from The Living Bible, The Revised Standard Version, The King James Version and the Modern Language Bible side by side in one edition.
How was it acquired?
Moore’s aunt and stepuncle, Jan and Rubin Morris, presented her with the Bible as a Christmas gift in 1976, when she was 16 years old.
Secrets about her Bible
This was the first parallel Bible that Moore had ever used and it stirred her interest in comparing verses as they appear in different versions.
She recently bought another parallel Bible on Amazon.com that includes The New King James Version, The English Standard Version, The New Living Translation and The Message, which paraphrases Bible verses. She keeps both parallel Bibles in her office at work.
Other version
Moore has another Bible, The New International Version, that she calls her “home and church” Bible. It is filled with highlighted passages and notes in the margins.
Her favorite verse
Proverbs 3:5-6, NIV. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.”
The reason
“It has provided comfort to me, especially in troubled times when I’ve really just needed to turn things over to the Lord and not try to solve every problem all by myself.”
A message for Moore
In the parallel Bible presented to Moore by her aunt and stepuncle, they wrote, “We hope and pray this Bible will become a daily source of guidance and inspiration for you in the years ahead.”
Noteworthy item
Moore spent her early years in Lexington, Ky., before moving with her family to Richardson, a suburb of Dallas. She was baptized and married her husband, Brett, at Richardson’s First Baptist Church.
Baylor degrees
It was an experience with her stepuncle that persuaded her to attend Baylor University. Rubin Morris took her to the Cotton Bowl Classic on Jan. 1, 1975, and they watched Baylor lose to Penn State, 41-20, in the first collegiate sporting event she ever attended.
Baylor’s marching band mesmerized Moore and she vowed to join it someday. She played flute in the Golden Wave Marching Band while collecting two degrees at Baylor.
Job history
Moore became principal of Waco Baptist Academy, 6125 Bosque Blvd., in 1999, after 14 years in the La Vega Independent School District.
