POLICE NEWS: Firefighters use 'jaws of life' to free woman from car
By Don Bolding Tribune-Herald staff writer
Waco firefighters used the “jaws of life” shortly before 3 a.m. Monday to free a woman from an automobile that had rolled over on the driver’s side in an accident, cutting and removing the top of the car.
An ambulance transported the woman to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center. Assistant Fire Chief Chris Pechacek, the senior officer on duty, did not have the woman’s name but said her injuries appeared to be minor.
The “jaws of life” has a scissorslike device, a prying device and a ram that can push impacted objects away.
Pechacek said firefighters decided to use it to minimize any pain the woman might have suffered.
