Fire marshals are investigating a fire in Moody that destroyed a garage and left a home severely damaged.

The Moody Volunteer Fire Department responded to a call at 8:25 a.m. Friday in the 500 block of Avenue G, Fire Marshal Michael Aycock said.

When responders arrived at the scene, the garage was engulfed in flames, Aycock said.

The fire spread from the garage to several rooms in the home, causing extensive smoke damage, Aycock said.

The family was not home at the time, but arrived on the scene later.

A neighbor called the fire department, Aycock said.

Five units from Moody responded, in addition to a unit from Bruceville-Eddy.

It took firefighters about 30 minutes to get the fire under control, Aycock said. They cleared the scene 2 1/2 hours after the first call.

Four dogs were rescued from inside the home, Aycock said.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
