Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst will be in town today to receive the endorsement of the Texas Farm Bureau’s political action committee, according to a news release issued by the Waco-based group.

Dewhurst, a Republican, has presided over the state senate as lieutenant governor since 2002 and faces a challenge from labor leader and San Antonio Democrat Linda Chavez-Thompson.

The Farm Bureau announced Dewhurst will meet with the organization’s board before a 1:15 p.m. news conference at the bureau’s headquarters on Fish Pond Road.

Dewhurst will accept the endorsement at the conference and is expected to discuss legislative issues, including the state’s budget and the issue of eminent domain reform — a top priority of the Farm Bureau.
