On Monday, Sheehan sat before Washington, D.C., Superior Court Judge Robert E. Morin in a white T-shirt printed with an image of a dove and the name of her group, Peace of the Action.

She and the other defendants were arrested at an anti-war protest March 20.

A prosecutor showed a video of some demonstrators laying on the White House sidewalk with mock coffins, while Sheehan crossed over a bicycle rack serving as a police line. U.S. Park Police also are heard warning them that their protest permit had been revoked.

Defense attorney Mark Goldstone said Sheehan spent two days in jail after her arrest.

Morin is deciding the case. If convicted, Sheehan faces fines.

Sheehan, whose son, Casey, was killed in Iraq in 2004, gained national attention in 2005 when she and other anti-war protesters gathered in Crawford outside the ranch of former President George W. Bush.

The protesters demanded the president’s justification for the Iraq war and asked for the immediate withdrawal of all troops.

Her group, several of whom were arrested on misdemeanor trespassing charges, ultimately filed lawsuits in Crawford and McLennan County alleging that ordinances limiting parking along county roads violated their rights to peaceable assembly and free speech.
