88-year-old Hubbard woman dies in home fire
By Don Bolding Tribune-Herald staff writer
An 88-year-old Hubbard woman died in a fire at her home Friday morning.
The state fire marshal’s office is assisting with the investigation into the blaze that killed Ina Willis, said Hillsboro Fire Marshal James Peacock, who is heading the probe.
The house was on Magnolia Avenue, which is State Highway 171.
Hubbard City Manager Dorthy Jackson said the first call came in shortly after 7 a.m., then a truck driver who had seen the fire came to City Hall, where Jackson was working, to report it.
The volunteer fire departments of Hubbard, Malone and Mount Calm all answered the call, she said.
“By the time I got there, the house was engulfed in flames,” she said. “There was just one wall left.”
Willis apparently was there alone, Jackson said.
