Hewitt police plan Night Out party
The Hewitt Police Department is sponsoring a National Night Out Kick Off Party from 6-9 tonight in the parking lot at Castleman Creek Elementary School, 755 S. Hewitt Drive.
The free event will include children’s activities, food, live music from the Shane Howard Band, information booths and more.

Palin to speak at Baylor
Sarah Palin will be the featured speaker at the Care Net Pregnancy Center of Central Texas’ Celebrate Life Banquet 2010, scheduled for 7 p.m. Sept. 14 at Baylor University’s Ferrell Center.
General admission tickets cost $30.
Proceeds will help provide free services to the more than 2,500 clients annually served by the center.

Computer class
The Dewey Community Center, 925 N. Ninth St., is offering a Computer 101 class from 6-7 tonight.
The class, open to those ages 7 to adults, will focus on projects such as creating calendars, fliers, greeting cards and presentations.
Cost is $5 to cover supplies.

Cooking for yourself
McLennan Community College community programs is offering a Cooking for Me, Myself and I class from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Aug. 24 at MCC’s CSC Building, 4601 N. 19th St.
The class is geared for men and women who are on their own and will include demonstrations, hands-on interaction and recipes for single-portion dishes.
Cost is $79.

Fall sports registration
Woodway Family Center, 1100 Estates Drive, will conduct registration for its fall sports leagues from 1-7 p.m. weekdays (except Wednesdays) and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays through Aug. 14.
Flag Football is open to children in kindergarten through sixth grade, soccer to children pre-kindergarten through fourth grade, and volleyball to third through sixth grades.
Cost for each league is $70 for Woodway residents and $75 for nonresidents.
