POLICE NEWS: Waco man arrested for allegedly beating girlfriend and threatening police
By Cody Winchester Tribune-Herald staff writer
A Waco man was arrested Tuesday after police say he assaulted his girlfriend — for the third time in eight months — and then threatened to kill the detective assigned to the case.
Thomas Felix San Miguel III, 19, is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and felony retalitation against a public servant.
His bonds Wednesday night totaled $100,000, a McLennan County Jail spokeswoman said.
Police say San Miguel and his girlfriend got into an argument over dinner Feb. 25 after she received a derogatory text message from a friend, according to arrest affidavits.
When they got home, San Miguel began beating her and threatened to kill her because she wouldn’t give him her phone, the affidavits say.
He punched and slapped the woman, smashed her head over a lampshade, held a serrated knife to her throat and head-butted her nose hard enough to draw blood, the affidavits say. She was treated at a local hospital.
A warrant for San Miguel’s arrest was signed March 4.
On Sunday, he called the detective assigned to the case and left a message saying he would “get” the woman for calling police, the affidavits say.
He also warned that if the detective tried to arrest him, he would “get his bullets and his AK-47” and “take [him] out,” the affidavits say.
“Better yet, I’ll just come down there and blow you up,” the affidavits quote him as saying.
The detective declined to comment.
Previous reports
In July, San Miguel’s girlfriend told police she had been receiving threatening phone calls from him, and in November she told police he had assaulted her.
Jail records show San Miguel was arrested Nov. 27 and charged with assault/strangulation. He posted $5,000 bond the same day.
The woman reported another assault in January, but no charges were filed, the affidavits say.
