Central Waco accident leaves 2 men injured
By Cody Winchester Tribune-Herald staff writer
Two men were injured Tuesday afternoon in a two-car accident that sent an SUV skidding into the exterior of a Waco data processing company.
A Toyota pickup collided with a Ford Explorer around 2:45 p.m. at the intersection of 17th Street and Washington Avenue, at which point the Explorer hopped the curb and crashed into a brick planter outside Ahlers and Associates, 1710 Washington Ave.
Both drivers were middle-aged, Assistant Fire Chief Patrick Kerwin said. Their names were not released.
Twelve people were working at the business when the car hit the planter, shaking the building, said Sam Odajima, the company’s customer service director.
The employees went outside, where a bystander already had called 9-1-1. Police, paramedics and fire crews arrived “within 10 to 15 seconds,” Odajima said. “They were really fast on that emergency response.”
Fire crews used hydraulic rescue tools to pop the Explorer’s door and free the driver, Kerwin said. The driver was unconscious when paramedics arrived, Odajima said.
Both men had moderate injuries and were taken to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center, Kerwin said.
