Waco news briefs for March 9
The Waco Parks and Recreation Department will have three lifeguard certification classes in April and May.
All sessions will take place at the McLennan Community College pool at the following dates and times:
* Session I: 5-10 p.m. April 5–9.
* Session II: 5-10 p.m. April 22-23, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. April 24 and 2-8 p.m. April 25.
* Session III: 5-10 p.m. May 17-23.
Cost is $150.
Participants must be ages 15 or older before the last scheduled class and take a pre-course swimming skills test.

Hewitt story time
The Hewitt Public Library will present a “Ducks Say Quack!” story time at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Hewitt Community Center, 208 Chama Drive in Hewitt.
The program will include stories, finger plays, songs and felt-board activities.

Free state tax help
The Texas Comptroller’s Office will present a free state taxes seminar for business owners from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Comptroller’s Waco Field Office in the Raleigh State Office Building, 801 Austin Ave., Suite 190.
The seminar will cover sales tax forms, filing and paying taxes electronically, taxable goods and services, and more.

Vietnam vet speech
Henry Kasper with the Vietnam Veterans of America, Heart of Texas Chapter 1012 will speak at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the VFW Post 4819, 715 Reagan St. in West.
Kaspar is seeking information on three veterans from West who died in the Vietnam War. Raymond Joe Vrba Jr. and the Dusbabek brothers, John Robert and Glenn Henry, are enshrined at the Waco Vietnam Veterans Memorial.
Memorial T-shirts with the names of those who died in Vietnam will be available.

Boots on the Brazos
The ARC of McLennan County will have its Boots on the Brazos fundraiser at 7 p.m. March 27 in the Brazos Room at the Waco Convention Center, 100 Washington Ave.
The event will include a barbecue meal catered by Eddie Ray’s Smokehouse, dancing and live music from Billy Roy and Heart of the Night.
Cost is $500 for table sponsorships for eight people, which includes dinner and an open beer and wine bar.
