"I found the movie mildly depressing and the story line tired. The movie makes the point which isn't a new one and then keeping repeating it. Breathtaking scenes of battle and the war are lost in a weak plot. I left disappointed. "

"When we went the theater I could tell there were a lot of (old) Marines there with their wives. This film is important to them. Iwo Jima, Tarawa, Okinawa, and so many battles from that time are taught to Marines, and it is part of their sacred history, just as Gettysburg or the crossing of the Potomac is sacred to our country. The film is worth seeing, but I don't think Hollywood can ever make a military film that is truly satisfying to those who have worn the uniform. Also, the film is arranged as a series of flashbacks from various people in various times and I found that hard to follow and I think it took something away from the story. The film shows how hard it was to fight that battle, and how important Corpsmen are to the Marines, how families grieved for their sons, and the spirit of our country at that time. The film is based on the book Flags of our Fathers which I highly recommend. When the movie comes out on DVD I will own that too. Semper Fi!"
