"Kevin James' innate likability goes to waste... He plays yet another misfit, but one who's so two-dimensional, needy (and frankly annoying) that it's difficult to root for him."

Predictable but funny

"Okay, if I were a paid movie critic, I would say something like this movie had that same old familiar formula of Home Alone (tricks to fight off the bad guys) and Uncle Buck (the down and out loser who makes a come back) and give it a D rating.
Even though it was predictable, it was still funny. We took the whole family and everyone enjoyed it. I was bored through the movie "Hotel for Dogs" (even though my 10-yr old enjoyed that one), but I laughed out loud through Mall Cop.
This one is fun. If you are a concerned parent, it does have some "mild" language along the lines of the A, H and D words. Maybe 5 or 6 times."

"Hey, it's not art but it is fun. BTW, Roger Ebert likes it; gave it three stars."
