Eastwood cruises in formulaic 'Torino'

Chris Garcia

Austin American Statesman

"Eastwood plays off his hard-bitten persona with an awareness that lends the drama needed buoyancy."

When 'Gran Torino' works, it works very well

Eric Robinette, a.k.a. "Sir Critic"

Dayton Daily News

"More than any film he's made since Unforgiven, Gran Torino tries to turn Eastwood's take-no-guff persona on its head — and for the most part, it works."

"This movie was so boring and full of crappy one line acting. I kept waiting for something to happen, some drama and action to begin and all I ended up with was wasting my time watching it. I would have been ticked off if I spent money to go to the movies, it just plain sucked!"

"This movie was not at all what I expected. Clint Eastwood is a classic. He says and does the things that we all want to say and do, but can't in the politically correct world that we live in. Fabulous movie! If it is true that this is the last move he will act in, what a swan song! You will not forget this movie."

"This was hand s down the best movie I have seen in many many a year. Kudos to Clint, and shame on the Oscars for snubbing this brilliant and touching film. Totally loved it."

"Just got home from watching this movie. Missed some of the lines because everyone in the theatre was laughing so loud. Even if it is a formula film, this was a well acted and well directed movie. Gruff and crotchety as ever, Clint Eastwood was perfect for the lead role. Even as the credits were rolling, many of the moviegoers didn't want to leave their seats, my wife and I included. This movie was so good, my wife leaned over to me after the movie and told me this is a keeper, we are buying a copy on DVD when it comes out."

"Funny, both he and his slight Asian co-star speak with a similar gnarl in their voices. If this kid will try to pursue acting career it's not likely to ever come close to Gran Torino. The unexpected and disturbing end is also heightened by the notion that it's probably the last time we see Clint Eastwood on the big screen. He said after this movie he won't be acting anymore. I feel lucky I watched it."
