A cold flurry of bullets and revenge

Chris Garcia

Austin American Statesman

"The dark, juvenile thriller is a mash of crime-flick clichés cloaked in black-leather gloom and pocked by a thousand slow-motion bullets."

Not that bad

"I saw it at Alamo Drafthouse, and maybe the pizza and quesadillas helped, but I thought it was an OK action movie. Definitely worth wasting a few bucks on and there was nothing at all wrong with the acting. My son (age 25) saw it with me and he thought it was pretty good too."

"This movie is a dud. Figured story would be bad but lots of good action. Wrong. Most all the action is in the commercials we have seen so many times. Don't even rent this one. "

"max payne rel lame dont see it. no character development , story very linear if there is a story. All de action in de trailer plus 5 mins = all the action in the movie. just dont see it. de only good thing is that they dint change it to a sci fi but since they screw up the rest of the movie it not worth it"

"I was not familiar with Max Payne Game as I was with Hitman when I went to see that movie. But, I still knew what to look for in terms of visuals and game type sequences. I think the translation was rather brilliant and super fun. I enjoyed the pace and the crisp way they got the story set up and running. Yes, I would have liked to cry a bit. But, that didn't mean I still didn't feel for the characters. Its a video game and not a tear jerker drama so that I didn't cry didn't mean I didn't like it. It wasn't boring to me and I think if you liked Hitman you will like this movie too. Hitman had a bit more reversals in it and there was a great love affair (with the same actress who is now a Bond Girl) but I think gamers will enjoy Max Payne and if you like action movies- you won't be disappointed. I wasn't and I hope you'll agree with me if you choose to listen to me and take it for what it is- a video game brought to the big screen. "

"This movie was BORING! No real character development - they tried to mash in too much into the story. The acting was mediocre and there was no action except for towards the end. Waste of money - not even worth renting."
