'Roscoe Jenkins' is unwelcome, unlikable

David Germain

The Associated Press

"Virtually everyone's a cartoon figure here, from Lawrence's flashy TV talk show host to Cedric the Entertainer's win-at-any-cost player to Joy Bryant's fake celebrity of 'Survivor' lineage."

"It's all been done before. We've seen all the jokes and crazy family members in this movie. Mo'nique does play her role really well, but it's not enough to carry the movie. Mike Epps has some pretty funny stuff as well, but again it's not enough to spend your money. Wait until you can rent it or better yet, wait until it comes on TBS for free. Is black comedy dead? Who's gonna bring the heat! Not Martin or Eddie (Norbit, even worse) apparently. "

"Dear David Germain, Sometimes in Hollywood, there are movies made that aren't that deep and in depth. It's call comedy. This movie was definitely funny. I'm not sure what you were expecting from the previews... but movies like this are just there to make you laugh. Mike Epps was HILAROUS in this movie and even Micheal Clarke Duncan shows that he has a silly bone. The movie gave what movie goers expected... a good laugh. Lighten up... it ain't that serious."

"I was really shocked. I didn't expect this movie to be that great. I just went to see it on a whim and boy am I glad I did. I was laughing throughout! It was a good movie overall. I wouldn't expect 'critics' to share the same sentiment. If you're looking for a good laugh, I recommend seeing Martin's movie at the theater."
