"An attractive, but often arch follow-up to 1998's Elizabeth, again featuring the luminous Blanchett as the lonely, independent monarch."

"The beatification of English Protestant standard-bearer Elizabeth as a sort of glowing, waxen totem from the Mediterranean Catholic tradition."

Great Historical Movie

The Kingdom
"Not politically correct and therefore worth watching. This was a fight between Protestant England and Catholic Spain allied with France. Although the ultimate defeat of the Spanish Armada was its poor seamanship and the weather as it sailed around the UK islands. Superb casting and a great moving plot keeps one fixed on Elizabeth. The direction and sweeping pictures of 16th century England are generally accurate. I think some academy awards for acting, costumes, directing etc. should emerge from this film. "

"What a movie! Moving rendition of a historic event. Great cinematology, costumes and performace by Cate Blanchett. Also a feel-good ending."
