The UIL has announced the five Texas Dodge Dealers Lone Star Cup winners for the 2009-09 school year, and Midway narrowly missed out on winning the Cup in Class 4A.
The Lone Star Cup is an all-sports competition that also takes into account a handful of academic and other extracurricular activities.
Friendswood made a late-season run to win its first Lone Star Cup, beating Midway, 92-90, in 4A. Friendswood’s wins in the state academic meet and one-act play propelled the school to the top.
Other Cup winners were The Woodlands in 5A, Argyle in 3A, Brock in 2A and Lindsay in 1A.
Robinson, which like Midway won a state championship in girls’ basketball this year, finished in a tie for fourth in 3A.

Midway has a long history of excellence both athletics and academics. The 1990 girls basketball team was the runner-up in the State Tournament. The twelve girls, on the team, had a collective, cumulative grade average of 92+!
