Camp Hearne holds annual WWII Living History Event

Camp Hearne, site of a POW camp from 1942-46, will host its annual WWII Living History Event from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday at FM 485 and Airport Road in Hearne.

Each October, Camp Hearne — located about 65 miles southeast of Waco — invites WWII re-enactors to enrich the museum experience for its visitors.

Wearing the uniforms and carrying the equipment of both the Allied and Axis forces, the interpreters share their knowledge about the daily lives of military men and women and the broader lessons of the Second World War.

This year, the Hearne Municipal Airport is welcoming WWII-era “warbirds.” These flying museums will be available for tours and provide the public rides for purchase to help support preservation efforts.

The flight path is over the camp’s site, so visitors at both venues will be able to know the roar of the vintage aircraft.
