Tea Party Express endorses Ted Cruz for Senate in Waco

A prominent tea party group held a news conference in Waco today to announce its endorsement of Ted Cruz (below) in the crowded GOP primary for Kay Bailey Hutchison's Senate seat.

U.S. Senate candidate Ted Cruz said Thursday that Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst is “responsible for killing the bill that would have prohibited sanctuary cities.”The Tea Party Express, based in Sacramento, Calif., is one of the most active tea party groups in the country when it comes to supporting candidates through endorsements and money.

The group held an earlier event in Irving. It also has a news conference planned in Houston Thursday.

Sal Russo, an official with the group said "one of our main focuses this year is to take control of the Senate with a conservative chamber."
