Robinson tops preseason baseball poll

The Robinson baseball team wants to finish the job at the state tournament this season, and voters in the state preseason poll think the Rockets will.

Robinson, the defending state runner-up, is No. 1 in Class 3A in the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association preseason poll.

West is No. 5 in 3A.

No other area teams were ranked, though Midway received votes in the 4A poll.

Robinson, which lost to Kennedale, 5-1, last year in the state championship game, relies on senior Chad Hollingsworth, the Super Centex Player of the Year and Texas commit who is one of the best pitchers in the state.

High school baseball teams began practicing today. Games may start Feb. 20.
