More frozen yogurt headed to Waco
By Amy Starnes
It appears everyone realized Waco had a hole in its "cold treat" market at the same time.
Another frozen yogurt business – U-Swirl – is headed to the city, planning an opening in late August. No specific date for the opening has been announced yet.
U-Swirl, a create-your-own yogurt shop, will open at 100 New Road. U-Swirl will have 18 flavors of yogurt that change seasonally and more than 60 toppings, said operator Stacey Scarborough. The yogurt sells for 39 cents an ounce.
U-Swirl joins Three Spoons, Spoonful and Oso's, which all opened this year. TCBY has also confirmed it will have a new store in Waco at a yet-to-be-disclosed location.
Scarborough said about the many new Waco frozen yogurt ventures, "I believe that U-Swirl differentiates itself from its competitors on many levels. A primary distinguishing factor lies in our premium yogurt base. We utilize the highest quality, consistency and flavors of yogurt offered in the marketplace. Another important distinguishing factor is U-Swirl's environment. "
She said the 3,000-square-foot store will offer Wi-Fi access and will have a seating capacity of 75 people inside with outside seating as well.
"Our store will be decorated in a very modern fashion providing our customers with a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere." Scarborough sent pictures of what the Waco U-Swirl will look like.
Hours will be 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to midnight on the weekends.
Need more yogurt, Waco?
SO many things going on in Waco lately... the new BJ's Brewhouse, the rumors of Freebirds, a new steakhouse going in to Legends Crossing, and a new Sushi place in the Central Texas Marketplace. Where is all the info? There hasn't been anything posted here since last AUGUST. ???
U-Swirl Waco opens on Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. Our hours will be 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. I think you will love the spaciousness and design of our place. Come try one of our 18 flavors including Hershey's Reese's Peanut Butter, Snickerdoodle, White Chocolate Macadamia Nut, Pralines N' Cream, Cake Batter and many others topped with your choice of over 60 toppings. Hope to see you soon!
Excited about this new place! I've heard good things. And the hip atmosphere and actual place to sit down will be real plusses in my book. I love 3 Spoons, but always have to eat it on the go because the place is too cramped.
Has Spoonfull opened yet? I drive by it everyday and haven't seen any activity there. Weren't they supposed to open in April or June?
Looks like a neat place! Sadly, all of these yogurt places will probably be gone in 5 years.
Orange Cup is my favorite- Cul (sic?) - w/ no topping. Been in town awhile- not even mentioned.
Met the young couple that is opening U-Swirl at a chamber meeting. High energy and they are going to run the place themselves. Although I like 3 Spoons, it is too small. Excited about the new place if it looks like the pics.
My husband and I recently tried the U-Swirl in Las Vegas when we were on vacation. The yogurt had an amazing flavor. They had so many unique flavors and our favorite was Snickerdoodle and the Jolly Rancher one. The place looked awesome and was really big. Can't wait for them to open in Waco.
It looks splendid. It has alot more room than the others, and I am very excited, I think Waco could use some friendly competition.
