Oscar-nominated "Hugo" returns to Waco on Friday

For those of you who missed Martin Scorsese's acclaimed (yet box office fizzle) "Hugo" when it opened in Waco in late November, your second chance comes Friday at Starplex Galaxy 16.

The movie, about a French orphan's adventure, also plays as an homage to film's early days and netted 11 Oscar nominations earlier this week, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Cinematography — a major reason why it's returning for a second run.

If you're looking to catch up on your pre-Oscar viewing, five movies with Oscar nominations are still playing in Waco, four of which are up for Best Picture: "The Descendants," "Hugo," "The War Horse," "Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close" and "The Iron Lady." The latter is the one that doesn't have a Best Picture nomination, but it does have Meryl Streep, up for a Best Actress statuette.

The opening of "The Descendants" on Friday means all but one of the Best Picture nominees have played Waco, "The Artist" being the sole holdout — so far.
