RG3, other Heisman candidates get NYC debut

NEW YORK — The Heisman Trophy candidates will arrive in New York City today for a press conference this afternoon at Times Square.

It's been a hectic couple of days for Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin, Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck, Wisconsin running back Montee Ball, Alabama running back Trent Richardson and LSU defensive back Tyrann Mathieu. The Heisman will be awarded Saturday night.

Griffin and the gang were in Orlando, Fla., last night for the College Football Awards Show, and are flying up to New York this morning. Of course, Griffin won the Davey O'Brien Award as the nation's top quarterback.

Believe me, it isn't easy getting into Manhattan. I got up at 3 a.m. yesterday to drive to DFW, where I caught a flight to New York's LaGuardia airport. Once I got here, it took two hours to get to my hotel by way of the Super Shuttle.

But it's been fun. I saw the big Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center last night and walked through Central Park this morning. The Christmas lights are really beautiful, and the streets are especially packed since this is the peak tourist season.

I'll be reporting from the press conference this afternoon.
