Lady Bears will cheer RG3 for Heisman in the Big Apple
By Brice Cherry
Baylor's RG3 is headed for the Big Apple and the Heisman ceremony.
Along the way, he'll encounter a few Baylor fans. Specifically, some of them named BG, Nae-Nae and O.
After the No. 1-ranked Lady Bears play Milwaukee later tonight, the team will hop on a plane Friday afternoon and head for New York themselves. Baylor faces St. John's on Sunday in the Maggie Dixon Classic at Madison Square Garden.
Since they'll be in town, you'd better believe the Lady Bears will cheer along Robert Griffin in his quest for college football's biggest prize.
"We're going to support Robert as well," Baylor coach Kim Mulkey said. "You can't be a block away from where all that is taking place and not let him know that we're there. Whether it's standing on the sidewalk with RG3 shirts cheering for him, but we're going to let him know that we're there to support him."
The Lady Bears are scheduled to see "Spider-Man" on Broadway Saturday night. But Mulkey said that plans are in place to spend at least a little time with Griffin, even if it means cheering and holding up signs as he makes his way through his hotel lobby on the way to the ceremony.
"It's important that he sees those girls supporting him," Mulkey said. "He's just everything that's good about college athletics."
The Baylor Bears taking a big bite outta the Big Apple! Go Bears.
All right! This weekend will be Baylor's proudest in NYC. RG3's awarded the Heisman and our Lady Bears' achieving another win in the Madison Square Garden will be a nice reply to 1948. It was over six decades ago then that our Baylor bears men's basketball team lost the national championship to Coach Adolph Rupp's University of Kentucky.
Congrats to Griffin and the #1 BU women. He should be wearing a Lady Bears shirt at the game on Sunday, too.
