Wendy's honors troops with USO donation
By Mike Copeland
To show their appreciation for local troops, Wendy's restaurants in Waco, Temple, Killeen, Marble Falls and Copperas Cove made a donation of $6,724 to USO Fort Hood on Veterans Day.
"Our local troops are the character and the lifeblood of Central Texas, and it is Wendy's privilege to be able to assist these brave men and women in any way we can," said James Hays, president and CEO of Central Texas Wendy's. "The entire goal of this campaign was to provide extra funds for the local USO Fort Hood while treating our customers to Wendy's great-tasting Frostys."
From Memorial Day to Independence Day, Wendy's customers were encouraged to purchase $1 Frosty Key Tags that would allow them to receive a free Junior Frosty with any purchase through the end of the year.
The USO, United Service Organizations, is a private, nonprofit entity, not a government agency. It provides entertainment, services and a touch of home at airports and military bases. It even strives to help forward-deployed troops and their families, as well as wounded warriors.
