Nonprofits can go green with solar systems
By Mike Copeland
Nonprofit organizations that would like to place energy-saving solar systems on their buildings should contact Green Mountain Energy, an Austin-based company that makes donations to qualifying organizations.
It has created the Big Texas Sun Club to help groups buy and install systems on their property. These systems use the power of the sun to generate pollution-free electricity or heat water. Applications must be submitted online by Aug. 31.
The website for submitting requests is www.gmsunclub.com.
The Sun Club is a program in which Green Mountain's customers can choose to support solar energy by contributing an extra $5 on their monthly bills. The program was used to donate solar panels for use on the Greater Waco Chamber of Commerce headquarters in downtown Waco. More panels will be donated this fall to Cameron Park Zoo.
