3 companies honored for workplace safety

By Mike Copeland

Three employers in McLennan County have received Texas Mutual Insurance Company's top honor for workplace safety.

To qualify for this honor, a company must demonstrate its commitment to safety by carrying out an exemplary safety program and controlling workers' compensation losses, said Texas Mutual, which has 33 percent of the workers' comp market in Texas.

Honorees from the McLennan County area include: Brazos Electric Power Cooperative, Brazos Masonry Inc. and S&H Powerline Construction.

This year, 198 safety awards were distributed to qualifying policyholders. Seven have not filed a claim in 10 or more years.

"On-the-job injuries carry monetary and, more importantly, human costs," said Ron Wright, president of Texas Mutual Insurance Co. "Part of our mission is to promote workplace safety and educate employers about safe work practices, but it's up to each company to implement safety policies. These honorees exemplify a commitment to workplace safety and the safety education of their employees."
