Which restaurant serves the best Mexican food in Waco?
By WacoTrib.com staff
Ask 10 people in Waco where to go for good Mexican food, and you're likely to get 10 different answers. Connoisseurs even will break it down to Tex-Mex and authentic cuisine from Mexico's different states and regions. We'll go for a more general approach:
Which restaurant serves the best Mexican food in Waco?
Feel free to break it down however you like. And please pass the chips and salsa!
ONE DAY I WAS EATING A BOWL OF CHILIE IN A HOLE IN THE WALL PLACE I SAID MAN THIS CHILIE IS GREAT WHAT IS YOUR SECRETE NO LIE HE SAID I MAKE MY CHILIE OUT OF SNAKE MEAT...CASE RESTED I WENT TO THE BATHROOMAND THREW UP......I AM A CHRISTIAN I DO NOT LIE
you guys have no clue i am life long resident one restraunt years ago mexcianbusted forserving dog food one of those wonderful taco stands maggots were found in the chicken yea buddie lets belly up and eat mexican food be careful what you eat its not always safe and sometime served by nasty people who will spit in yor food dont make thecook or server mad just walk out ifs its bad.....just an olcountrygal advice
Tres Mexican Restaurant on 6th street, serves fresh Tex-Mex food everyday.
El Charro on La Salle, best Tex-Mex by far. La Fiesta, El Con, and Trujillo's are all terrible. Siete Mares is the best coastal Mexican food you will find north of Austin.
Chuy's 100% it's maded fresh every day and maded with love. The fact that their very small freezer only hold ice cream and fish says it all.
RANCHO GRANDE 4509 BELLMEAD DR. WACO TEXAS 76705 254-799-2633
I enjoy this site, it is worth me coming back
Nothing Compares to El Chapparal in San Antonio or Angelicas in Floresville Tx Hubby is from San Antonio and I only thought the food was good in Waco but its Great if your in SA. Oh if I have to eat Mexican In Waco its gotta be La Fiesta.
The best mexican food is in Killeen an the new En Fuego tex-mex restaraunt. The service is excellent and the food is mouthwatering. The atmosphere is unlike any other, and they have free entry to LA Rumba next door if u dine in En Fuego first. Sunset Fajitas are the bomb!!!! Everyone should try En Fuego, you wont be disappointed!!!
Leal's in Robinson has some really good breakfast entries. The tripe in the menudo isn't rubbery.
quit telling people about ruthies it is crowded enuff across the street raymonds is good
Papasito's. *Never mind.*
Again, not in Waco, but Ruthies in Lorena is the Best mexican food around. Their queso Supreme cannot be beat.
El Conquistador serves great Tex-Mex foods that are fresh, hot and not too spicy for my wife and myself. An added treat, our server, Mario, makes our weekly dining experience a true delight with his friendly, jovial conversation and welcoming greeting when we enter the dining area.
Im partial to trujillo's but if i had to choose it would be the taco stands on La Salle or Taqueria #100000 across from Hastings on Valley Mills. I've tried La Fiesta, Casa Ole, OTB, and Ninfa's and they all taste like an upscale Taco Bell.
I agree with you KK, NEW LITTLE PLACE HAS OPENED IN BEVERLY HILLS ACROSS FROM THE VA HOSPITAL THE JALISCO GRILL, GREAT TAQUITOS, A FAB FAJITA MIX THAT IS OUTSTANDING!!! I live right around the corner from this place, it's great!and the service is great too!
I'll do this simplyA. El Conquistador (Waco Dr)B. El Tapipatio (new road)C. Trujillo's (on the circle)
Altos de Jaliscos is the best! ill drive all the way across town for them! the taco stands down lasalle are next fav. then el tapitios. just tried se cosina and they were great as well.i agree with a few others, you have to judge a mexican restaurant by the tortillas! if they are not real then the food wont be either. most other restaurants seem like they buy their products at heb and try to call it homemade...had a BAD experience at trujillos and will never go back.
(1.) El Taqueria Mexicana Grille #8 or #9 and (2.)Mi Tequila for authentic Mexican food. If you want chain restaurants hit Ninfa's up. La Fiesta SUCKS!!! The prices are ridiculous and the food is so-so. I don't know what the fuss is about with that place! I'd take the "TACO TRUCKS" over La Fiesta.
El Con and family is the best...La Fiesta is over priced....taco trailers around Waco are top of the list
KDF, if you want the most authentic Mexican food, just head to La Salle, and stop at any one of the Taco trucks, you will not regret it.
LaFiesta has the BEST beef fajitas, queso and margaritas in town!
This is a great time to ask. Where is the very most *authenic* Mexican food in Waco.
TED GONZALES' EL CONQUISTADOR ON WACO DRIVE AND IN BELLMEAD..THE BEST!!!!!!
I can't believe that no one has mentioned SeCocina Restaurant in downtown Waco. They have the best food and a great variety. The food is delicious and the service has always been supurb!
Leal's in Woodway and Taqueria de Jalisco in Hewitt. They're a little less Tex-Mex, a lot fresher, IMHO....
TO TAMALE KINGPIN, ITS LA MILPA ON LASALLE.. YES THEY DO HAVE GOOD TAQUITOS!!! 17TH UNDER THE BRIDGE IS VERONICA'S... BUT I HAVE TO AGREE WITH LAFEMME GORDITA, LOS ALTOS SERVES REALLY GOOD FOOD. BUT A NEW LITTLE PLACE HAS OPENED IN BEVERLY HILLS ACROSS FROM THE VA HOSPITAL THE JALISCO GRILL, GREAT TAQUITOS, A FAB FAJITA MIX THAT IS OUTSTANDING!!!
Casa de Castillo has the best salsa, chips, Margarita's and food. The patio is a great place for a fiesta.
Altos de Jaliscos in Hewitt and Rancho Grande in Bellmead are good as are other taquerias. If a place doesn't make homemade tortillas with the "spots" like my abuelita used to make, it’s not Mexican. If a place doesn't serve nopalitos, migas, menudo, lengua, barbacoa, chicharon, horchata or real chorizo, it's not Mexican. Most of the other so-called Mexican restaurants cater to American tastes. Cover some bland greasy meat in cheese and jalapeños, serve it with pasty white factory tortillas and call it "Mexican". I think of them as expensive Taco Bells with a liquor license. Not bad places to take your bollio friends, but not something I would take family to.
Ninfa's is the best, but very busy. Don Carlos is very good and has large portions for the money. I never have to wait for a table at Trujillo’s.El Conquistador tastes like a frozen Mexican TV dinner. The only good thing La Fiesta makes are their margaritas.
**NINFA'S ALL THE WAY FROM THE CHIPS AND SALSA TO SPIDERMAN NINFA-RITA TO THE PECHUGA ALFONSO**
the taco stand at edwards body shop on lasalle ....idk the name but there is a restruant on franklin under the 18th street bridge...damn good food....renea's off of i-35 across from george's
I TYPE IN ALL CAPS TO SEEM IMPORTANT!!!!11!!!!/The internet is serious business people.
ninfas the best ha ha!!!!!!!! they SUCKELTAPITIOS IS THE BEST MEXICAN FOOD AROUND HANDS DOWN
The majority of the restaurants in buildings are barf. The "Taco Stands" rule in Waco. I can think of one though. Veronica's on Franklin serves some muy bueno Menudo along with other authentic Mexican dishes--yum. My wife and I are usually the only gringos in the place. Be prepared though, parking is hell around there, excellent driving skills required. Well worth the trouble though.
Now this all depends on if you mean the "Let's just cover it in cheese and call it mexican food" place, or if we mean real Mexican food. Being from San Antonio, I am rather partial to the street taco vendors, I don't care which one they are all amazing. Although Taquiera Zapoteca has the best cachete and lengua you could ever ask for.
none of the restaurants mention come close to a home cooked mexican food at my moms house
THE TACO STAND (DONT KNOW THE ACTUAL NAME) ITS ON 18TH AND CLAY, THERE ARE SEVERAL STAND LOCATED IN WACO AND THEY ARE ALL GRET!! TRY TO ELOTE AND THE WONDERFUL TACOS FOR A BUCK!! REAL AUTHENTIC FOOD AT LOW PRICES AND PICNIC TABLE!! LA FIESTA IS WAYYYYY TO OVERATED AND NINFAS IS BLAH.... THE TACO STAND ON DUTTON IS GREAT TOO!
Are you people loco in la cabeza? The only competition El Tapatios has is El Conquistador.None of the others come close.
El Tapatios en El Camino Nuevo! El rey de los restaurantes Mexicano!
Lived in Waco on and off for 5 years totaling 4 years. Louisiana guy so ... can't say which are bland as most other food is kinda bland to me anyways.1st)El Conquistador - Fantastic atmosphere, great food, and excellent service. (Going to try the one in Bellmead now though)2nd)Lolita's - Great atmosphere, great food, great service. 3rd)The roach coaches (as there are more than one and you know what I mean) on La Salle Ave - Well... outdoor atmosphere, GREAT food, fantastic friendly service. Don't remember the names but these places are open REALLY late and have really good food if your out and about and want a quick bite or a fast dinner. 4th)Ninfa's - Good atmosphere, good food, fantastic service. Mixed drinks are cheap, but seem watered down. 5th)On The Border - Good Atmosphere (little crowded though), great food (I could eat my boots with the sauce on those brisket taco's!), good service. IMO best mixed drinks, higher prices but worth it. 6th) Casa Ole - Decent atmosphere (the smoking section blows right into the non-smoking... as a ex-smoker it's more disgusting now than ever, this would be number 3 if not for this), Great food, fantastic friendly service, really cheap (can eat there every day its so cheap) If you like beer or margarita's this is the place to go, dirt cheap and ice cold. 7th)El Chico's - Great atmosphere, Decent food, so-so service. Great margarita's to make you forget that though. I don't know what happened here. I have been to LOTS of other El Chico's in Texas and all were fantastic (Tyler was my favorite). This one is just a fluke I guess... lately they have been doing much better on food but just a little better on service though.
Altos de Jaliscos in Hewitt (breakfast, lunch or dinner...haven't had anything that wasn't good), Leal's in Woodway (breakfast or lunch, excellent carne guisada, large burritos), Becky's Cocina in China Spring (breakfast or lunch, plus dinner on Friday and maybe Saturday, 99 cent tacos on Friday, spicy carne guisada with pototoes), Lolita's bacon egg potato and cheese breakfast tacos, and El Conquistador for good service and a very consistent product.
The Taco Shop on Dutton is numero uno. Waco's El Conquistador is number two, and Trullios on the circle claims the three spot. This question is no fair because there are too many to mention and be totally fair about it. God forgive me, but there is a Mexican place off the circle on LaSalle that ranks right up there. <><
Lolita's is the spot for breakfast burritos. Altos de Jaliscos in Hewitt, and Ninfa's are the spots to go for dinner. All of those places make outstanding Mexican Food, but now I live in LA, and can't find any good Mexican Food out here.
Lolita's is the spot for breakfast. For lunch/dinner, El Siete Mares is great, as is El Con. If you're in a hurry, El Con can have you in and out in no time and their salsa is legit, not to mention their top shelf rocks 'rita. The joint on 17th or 18th and Waco Drive is good, too.El Chico-- bad food, worse service. Ninfa's-- bland, overcrowded TexMex. La Fiesta-- it's okay, but also not authentic. My two cents.
I like La Fa, El Con, El Sietes Mares, El Tapps & Ninfa's. All good!
During our little over 3 years in Waco, La Fiesta on 19th was our favorite. Great food & service, along with courteous wait staff. Did not care for Ninfas as food was too bland. Since moving to Florida and now North Carolina we miss good Mexican Food and Texas BBQ (which you can not find in either state.)
La Fiesta followed by Altos de Jaliscos.
It would have to be Altos de Jaliscos in Hewitt for me.
Ninfa's is definitely the best in Waco! I recommend it to everyone here and for those that visit Waco. The prices for the week day lunch menu are great if you want to avoid the weekend crowds.
We just discovered El Taqueria Mexicana Grille #9- it's fabulous! I'm a fan of El Conquistador, too, but the one in Bellmead, not the one in Waco.
Definitely Ninfas. GREAT Margaritas too! El Conquistador is very good as well. And as far as the green dip at Casa Ole, I could make a meal off of that stuff! Yum!!!
LaFiesta is a joke.... Lolitas is the best for breakfast. ElChico's is good but trujillio's is probably the best. ....and im sticking to it.
