Which restaurant serves the best hamburger in Waco?
By WacoTrib.com staff
Looking hard for a drive-in, searching for a corner cafe / Where hamburgers sizzle on an open grill night and day.
So go the lyrics to Chuck Berry's rock 'n' roll classic "Back in the USA," and so goes our next question:
Which restaurant serves the best hamburger in Waco?
I'll cast a vote for Kitok's Lip Locker to get the discussion started. Enjoy!
Vickie... the person who posted the comment about the griddle.... email me please!! Cathy
I am considering opening up a new "the griddle" in waco texas. How do you think i would do? In the 70's it had the best steakfingers and fried pies and baskets,i think it would be a great nostalgic success, anyone else out there agree??
When I was a kid I lived in Waco during the 60's. I can still remember the amazing deserts they served at (believe it or not!!)my school. The best peanut butter cookies in the world. Chocolate and lemon pie... cakes of all kinds. Does anyone know if these recipes were ever put together in a cookbook? The chili was good too! kg
Gerik's ole Czech Bakery & Deli
Captain Billy Whizzbang's........ and of course Health Camp!!
Cupps has really great Hamburgers
Geriks ole Czech bakery and deli in Waco off of franklin n down town has the best burger!! Cheap price and you won't leave hungry!! Everythings bigger at geriks, they even have kolaches and huge cinnamon rolls!! Highy recommed this place!!!
Beyond a shadow of a doubt, Tradinghouse Bar & Grill!!!!
I'm surprised no one has mentioned the burgers at Crickets Bar& Grill on Franklin. Crickets has had the best hamburgers in Waco by far, like you'd make on your backyard grill. The ground beef is quite substantial, not the thin pre-formed patties you find most everywhere else, and it is cooked the way you want it, and served in a poppy seed bun. What more could you want.
BRITT's BURGER BARN on Colcord! YUM!
Absolutely it is Britt's Burgers on Colcord. Try the Alvin burger, you'll love it, so delicious.
Pappa Bear's is great. Also Burgers Galore
Britt's Burger Barn on Colcord. No contest.
Hi i been living here my whole life and to tell you the best burger in waco hands down is Britt's burger barn,And in very close second is Dubl-R now if u think there r better burgers then that in town my friend you are very wrong.
Double-R and then Capt. Billy's
My wife and I have WANTED TO TRY Double-R burgers. Every time we've gone by their placem they're closed. Does anyone have the hours for Double-R? I've heard Burgers Galore is good, too, but haven't tried it yet. As for the best, so far, I pick Capt. Billy Whizzbangs on Lake Air.
We just have to weigh in and say that Britt's Burger Barn is the BEST. Come as you are for funky decor and great friendly people. Burgers are great, and grilled cheese on jalapeno bread is good, too. Great onion rings! We also LOVE World Cup burgers and keepin' it in the neighborhood!
double r is the best nobody does it like shine and larry , davids ok second is kitox
Dubl-R is absolutely the best...have it on their "sourdough" bun. :-) Great chicken sammiches too. PS I LOVE Bubba's earlier shameless self promotion! Seriously! I've never had one of his so I may have to try it!
There is no doubt that Double R has the best hamburgers in all of Central Texas. Best flavor, best cooked and best service. Everything is cooked when ordered and served piping hot.I have tried hamburgers fron Brownsvulle to Amarillo and El Paso to Texarkana and none is better than Double R. Storms in Hamiltin run a second. Mike has it right.
The best and biggest hamburger is at the country store in golinda jdk
Why doesn't someone open a place that serves the same steak and fish baskets that you used to get at Chatam's/Nallies/Jackies? Also, another "The Griddle" would be nice. I'd be there every week.
POP-A-TOP on Speight! Had one yesterday and it was very good!!!
The Bulldog Burger Barn in Bosqueville has the best Burgers around. Along with lots of other good food choices.
I'm glad to see that most of the burger joints listed, Christis, Double R and Britts are all basically the same as Shorty's I went there when I went to WHS almost every day at lunch and for many years afterward. It was a great greasy cheesburger for a reasonable price. Makes me hungry just thinking about it.
Fuddruckers has the best hamburger in Waco Texas they cook the meat and then you put your own toppings on it and that is the best.
I believe Georges is my hometown favorite
Hello everrone, I am a former Wacoan that now lives in Iowa but still have lots of ties still in Texas and Waco I come home atleast once a Year if not more, I never leave with OUT HAVING THE BEST BURGER IN THE WORLD AT CHRISTI'S IN BELLMEAD in not some huge fancy burger its just a good old fashion buger cant beat it.
Christi's in Bellmead
1) Brits Burger Barn on 15th and colcord 2) Double R
1) Double-R 2)Kitoks (3 Mine, grilled on the pit. <><
Dubl-R hands down. I like Zeb's, but a Double Double from Dubl-R is hard to beat.
i have to say it is dubl r burgers are the best in waco!!!! they have great food and are old-fashioned home cooked meals. you cant get any better than that and they also know that a real person loves real food with great hospitality. so move over you health nuts it is time to chow down!!!!!
If you abide by the rules and list one in Waco (rather than say Bellmead) then I would have to say Kim's is my favorite burger. It was a place that made me feel like I was Norm in "Cheers" except people didn't know my name and didn't shout out "Norm!" when I came in.
Cobie’s Gas Station then Britt's Burger Barn...gotta say I have been eating @ the Burger Barn since I was little...i dont know if it is the original owners, but I remember going there and getting a burger with no veggies and my gramma laughing at me. When I come into town to visit we go by Cobies in my hubby's old neighborhood and get a big greasy hot cheeseburger with the works! They rock!
Britt's Burger Barn - no doubt about it! The jalapeno cheese buns speak for themselves!
I love Double-R`s and the next best is Jody`s in Temple.
Cobie's Gas Station on Dutton has unbelievable hamburgers!!!! We call them in, pick them up, and eat in the car at the parking lot while we people watch!!!
WOW.... !! I am absolutely HONORED to finally be in the BURGER RING OF HONOR!!! One fo the customers emailed me and said LOOK !!! And after only 2 1/2 years in business ! Luv yall ! Bubba's IS the best burger around (per our fans!) And if you haven't tried us..shame on you. Hours are M-F 8:00 - 7:30 and Saturday 8-2. You JUST GOTTA come try the HUBBA BUBBA !! Double Cheeseburger ...oh my gosh...almost more than your pallet can handle ! Visit our website anytime and see what's in store. www.TheBubbaHub.com...and watch for another location opening soon. We'll keep you updated. Oh yeah, burgers aren't the only things we sell. Try the 100% chicken fried steak and not to mention BREAKFAST !! The best around. See ya soon ...and thanks for yall's support!! See ya when ya get here !
Kitok's egg-burger hands down!
Anybody that knows anything about GREAT burgers knows that CUPP'S is the ONLY place to go. And you better watch your language when you're in there; Betty will slap you silly should you slip up and utter the F or S word!!!
Bubba's in Lorena has the best burgers. Check out www.thebubbahub.com for hours. Zeb's is a close 2nd.
World Cup Cafe's World Cup Burger. Great pico de gallo and great bread. And the manager there is frickin' fine!!
KITOKS
Got to be Double R at 18th and Herring.
1. Britts Burger Barn, the Bear Burger2. Zebs Backyard Grill, bacon chili cheeseburger on Wombo bread3. Hooters, bacon chili cheeseburger
health camp off the circle is the bomb...double r is damn good...best 2 in town
I like Dubl-R, followed by Tom's mushroom swiss!
PS: If they served beer, I'd be there 3 times a week.
Dubl-R is at 18th and Herring. Parking is a little tricky...sometimes you have to cut through an old abandoned restaurant's parking lot to go the back way, but it's worth the trouble. They've also got great milkshakes.
Dubl R with Brit's Burger Barn being a close second. I also want to say that not only do these places have good burgers, but the staff at both joints are awesome to!!!
I drive over 30 miles for a Zeb's burger....Where is Dubl-R? I'd drive that far to try theirs, too.
Dubl-R -- made to order right there in front of you. The double-double with jalapenos will make any burger lover smile.Get there early.
Double-R is the best in a hundred mile radious.
A place I have found to have a great breakfast surprised me the other day with a wonderful burger for lunch. Olimpic Family Resturant on 18th. I'm a huge Double - R fan, but I believe the Olimpic is a better burger.
Cupp's just doesn't taste the same since they upgraded the booths. For a new joint, Zeb's ain't bad.
Dubl-R, but (here's a surprise vote) the bowling alley on Waco Drive makes an AWESOME burger too.
1. Christy's2. Kitok's3. Zeb's
I would say Double R's I live in the DFW now and every time I come home for a visit I have to stop there. :)
Dubl-R or Tom's
Double R and then I also like Hondos in Hewitt..they have really good hamburgers and really good onion strings. YUM I think I'd like to have one today!
I have to agree with Brittney, Dubl-R is my favorite with Kitok's Lip Locker coming in a close second, Kitok's would have been first if Kitok still ran the place, but it's just not quite as good since she left.
Dubl-R!!
I have memories as a child going to a place on Clay st, called “Holders” (I’m pretty sure that was the name and their last name) it was a little store owned by a man and his wife. They also made homestyle hamburgers and had sodas in the bottle. I remember going with my grandfather, mother and uncle. I think years later, someone broke into their house (they lived across the street from their store) and tried to rob them, murdering the husband. I was a young child when I went, but they always seemed like good people with great burgers.
Kitok's burgers for sure!
Bulldog Burgers by far. They are awesome. I am not sure if you would consider it Waco since it is in Bosqueville.
dubl-R!
I love Lee's Drive Inn myself. Mmmmmmmm
Britt's Burger Barn off of 18th and Colcord. Best Burgers in town and I have eaten them all many times! Try the fiesta burger if you like a little kick and you wont be dissappointed in the least bit!
Christi's in Bellmead has very good burgers.
Double R. Cupps. It's the good, old-fashioned Texas-style hamburger. Love 'em. Kitok is really good also.In my younger days, it was a little hamburger stand on a corner downtown. 5 for a $1. They were the absolute best. When you've been working in the hot Texas sun, about 50 cents for 2 big old Texas-style hamburgers was a real bargain.
the best burgers in waco are at the BULLDOG BURGER on Washington Lane
Gotta go with Cupp's here. The classic.
kitok's rocks! i just tried it about a month ago since living in waco for over 14 years! i am now addicted to kitok's burgers!
