Do you agree with city council approval of a substance abuse treatment center?

The Waco City Council on Tuesday approved a permit for the Cenikor Foundation to open a substance abuse treatment center at 3008 Lyle Ave.

Do you agree with the council's decision? Why or why not?

2 out of every 10 people right here in Waco needs rehab, they are in denial. It's sad how drugs are considered a money-making avenue for the criminal justice system,Doctors and pharmacuticals. It's no secret all the money that's made off of drugs.

I applaud the city council for taking the time to weigh this issue and to take into account the concerns of homeowners. As someone who lives near the center, I'm glad that the citizens were able to have their say (if rudely, but some of them) and get some of their concerns addressed by the company. That is how compromise is supposed to work. And we know we need programs like this to make this a better place for all our citizens to live. I was glad to read this morning that the council had wholeheartedly agreed.

Yes, I think it is a positive & wise decision. In today's society, there are so many drug/alcohol abuse going on, it can only be a positive move towards helping those in need! Especially if it is replacing the Freeman Center! And the location of it, there use to be a medical facility there before, what would be the difference? I think it's a great move & glad it was approved! Good move Waco City Council!

I support the decision. The council gave time for the company to meet with the residents in the area and ease their concerns. We have to have places for people to seek help before they become a drain on society by becoming unemployed, homeless, or turn to a life of crime. I do not believe this will be a danger to the neighborhood. We all want treatment centers, but "not in my back yard." They have to be in somebody's yard. This is an existing building that will be put to good use.

I think it is a good and wise decision... in today's society, there is so much drug/alcohol abuse going on, if there is help available, maybe we can work on decreasing the high number of addicts there are. I feel with a treatment facility available, especially if it's replacing the Freeman Center, is a positive step towards offering help for those in need!! As far as the location of it, it is replacing an old medical facility that was once there, what is the difference?
