If the Big 12 breaks up, which schools should Baylor align with?
Rumors of a Big 12 break-up are rampant. If that happens, one WacoTrib.com reader suggested Baylor should form a conference with Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, BYU, TCU, New Mexico, Boise, and Houston. So, here's a chance to build your own conference:
If the Big 12 breaks up, which schools should Baylor align with?

Think about it, there are many, many other things that should worry every citizen. The big 12 is just a small issue and it should stay that way. Wake up and smell the roses, the world does not revolve around athletics.
With High Shcools????
SMU, TCU, Notre Dame and whatever other religion schools and they become the holy rolers
Reicher
Does the NCAA have rules for min/max number of schools in conferences? If not, maybe they should take a look at it.
No Mountain West schools are going to leave a league that is on the rise for a league that is dying. As for TCU joining up with Baylor, that won't happen. I live in a MWC city and to tell you the truth, outside of my sister(who lives in McGregor) I have never met anyone who likes Baylor athletics. Baylor shirt tailed it's way into the BCS and now in the light of a new day the Bears have been exposed as the mid-major that they have always been and will always be.
Big XXII North - Kansas, K-St., Missouri, Iowa St., Tulsa & one other school vs. Big XXII South - Texas A&M, Baylor, TCU, Houston, SMU, & UTSA. That should keep rivals and give the Aggies what they want their own television.
Conference Cen-Tex 1. Mary Hardin Baylor 2. TSTC 3. Navarro Jr 4. 4C Business School 5. baylor 6. RTS Truck Driving School I feel strongly that baylor could perform well enough in football to be a top 4 kind of team in this league!
Kansas,Kansas State.Missouri,Iowa State,Rice,Houston,Memphis,U.T.E.P.,SMU,Tulane,North Texas State,Baylor...New Big X11
Baylor needs decent schools around them. TCU, Houston, BYU, Boise St. Colorado St, Kansas, Kansas St, Rice,Missouri, Notre Dame. Some of these schools will make us a great Basketball conference too.
It not about football its about the market waco community cannot sustain a college football powerhouse because of the low wages here most hard working common folks live paycheck to paycheck and if we developed some of that land baylor sqaundered to develope an altunative form of income then maybe the fan base for baylor would exceed expectations enough to be looked at with that being said baylor will mtw is out since baylor screwed tcu c usa will likely be out due to the rest of party left from the shaft houston and rice are proubly not going to be commpasionate toward baylor i foresee sunbelt troy and north texas in baylors future
If It is all about TV I would build the following "Super Conference". Cover New Orleans (Tulane) Houston (UH, Rice) DFW (TCU, SMU), San Antonio (UTSA has started a football program with a road map to play in a bowl eligible conference in four years. They play a full schedule in 2011 and will play in the Alamo Dome) El Paso (UT El Paso) Albuquerque (UM)Steal some of the Denver Audience (Colorado State)Keep the Kansas City Market with (KU and KSU)Keep the St Louis Market (Missouri)Take the Memphis Market with Memphis and fill out the other 14 or 16 with Baylor, Iowa State, New Mexico State, Tulsa, and or Louisiana Tech.
You guys are dreaming... First : why would TCU leave the Mountain west to go to a new inferior conference... As a baylor grad- I hate this but we are left out and no politician will save us this time. This will have far reaching effects and we could start losing coaches too.... We would be lucky to land in the C-USA right now.... Mountain west as much as I think we should go there, will not take Baylor because TCU will be against it for the perception of treatment from Baylor at conception of Big 12
Really UT fits w/ the PAC10 and A&M fits w/ the SEC. Although there's some distance, BU would be a great fit for the ACC with Wake Forest, Duke, BC, etc...
Looks like you will have Iowa State,Baylor,Kansas, and Kansas State Left. Since this won't be a big money maker you have to look at geography. You add Tulsa,TCU,Houston,SMU,Rice,New Mexico,La Tech, and UTEP. This conference is not perfect but the Bears would be lucky to win it.
I favor a conference of teams that have six letters in the school name...hm..... Baylor, Tulane, Butler, Kansas, Auburn, DePaul, Drexel, Furman, Howard, Lehigh, Loyola, Marist, Purdue, Temple, Xavier.
This is so simple. The Big 12 stays together and adds a team to replace Nebraska. I am thinking Boise State / BYU / TCU or RICE. It hurts the interests of all Texans to break up BU,TAMU, TTU, and UT. If all else fails, we go back to the SWC Baby!!!
Baylor is a joke, they aren't going to the Pac-16 and they should never had been in the Big12. A&M Texas and Tech are gone West Baby. See ya Baylor, we won't miss you!
Baylor, Harvard, Princeton, Cornell, MIT, Pennsylvania, Brown, Yale, Julliard
Seems like everyone would want BU in their conference and on their schedule......it's a guaranteed win! I like the Private 10 too.
I agree completely with GB. I have felt this way for years. Form a private school conference of: Baylor, Vanderbilt, Duke, Northwestern, TCU, SMU, Boston College, BYU, Rice, and Notre Dame. The Private 10 sounds great! GB can be the commissioner.
Baylor just about had to beg to get into the Big 12, now its asking other schools to step up for them to go into the new conference, where they haven't been competitive in football since they joined, someone suggested a new conference and be very selective, ok, that's why Baylor is begging to be included now, but people don't seem to realize that, want to know why Baylor can't compete, for being selective, I wish they would make a list of the athletes that Baylor turned away for not being the right kind of people wanted at Baylor, but then again, the ones they accept kill their own teammates, are cruel to animals, and no telling what else happened but they kept bottled up cause of the so called reputation of the "baptist" school, its good to see Baylor begging for once, here is a suggestion, get money from all your do good alumnu, and buy your way into a conference using all that money you charge for tuition and all the money you pay out to your leaders, kind of reminds me of the politicians we have leading this country to ruin. If you were to look into the real reason Baylor doesn't want to get left behind it would be the money coming in, if they do lose out, you can bet the tuition will be raised again in order to keep the university running up to the high standards they claim to have, maybe developers are already looking at the land around Baylor campus, and like Enron, money makes rich people do strange things, like butter their own pockets and hanging people out to dry.
Football is not the only sport in which Baylor competes! We need to stay in the best conference possible. We are currently the 38th best athletic department in the nation according to the Directors Cup point standings, why would we want to form a conference with a bunch of teams that are probably <100 in the Directors Cup. Colorado is #76, let them join the loser conference and let us join the Pac 16!
Most seem to be forgetting that University of North Texas is the 4th largest school in the state and can produce teams that can compete. However, the Waco paper seldom publishes their scores so few in this area are acquainted with their teams. UNT definitely needs to be included.
Tri-State Conference: Tulsa, Lousianna Tech, Tulane, U of Houston, North Tx State, TCU, SMU, Rice and Baylor. Attendance would probably all be the same and over half of these have been in the top 20.
Baylor was a knee injury away from a great season and a bowl game this year...and we would not be having this conversation. Look at total athletic program.
TCU, North Texas, Sam Houston State, Mary-Hardin Baylor, Rice, Texas State, Stephen F Austin, Baylor, SMU, Univ. of Houston, BYU, and Tulsa--our Big XII!!!
Baylor and A&M (bottom of the Big 12 South) should join Houston, Rice, TCU, Texas State, SMU and Tulsa?
The Texas 8 is OUT. That conference is too weak and doesn't offer that much national exposure. Keeping all the Texas teams together is the problem because Texas is getting offered a lot more money to switch conferences. Only legislature can defeat that proposal, I dont see how Texas can refuse. This big pac -16 idea is good for Baylors sake but future students might have to fly to Oregon/UCLA/Pasadena for away games? This is not logical and would take away from all those in-state rivalries. Please Keep the big 12 together and this should be a wake-up call to get better sooner or risk the damage of not being in a tier 1 conference.
Everyone knows Baylor can't compete in football year in-year out....UTEP,NewMexico is where the Bears belong...Is what it is..
Let's form an all-Texas conference. Baylor has been at the bottom of the bucket ever since it joined the Big 12. Getting tired of seeing the Bears get run over by even second-rate Big 12 teams....
I could care less where football went but with our awesome basketball programs for men and women, NO WAY! Nobody be takin' our Big 12 apart!
Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State, Colorado State, TCU, Houston, Rice, Baylor
Baylor officials, notably the AG have been optimistic about the Big 12 sticking it out, in the face of incontrovertible evidence that big changes are underway that could deal a heavy blow to Baylor athletics and Waco. At some point uncritically taking McCaw (and now Starr's) word for it won't cut it. Baylor is either out of the loop, being disingenuous about what the future holds or both.
I would like to see a private school conference of: Baylor, Vanderbilt, Duke, Northwestern, TCU, SMU, Boston College, BYU, Rice, and Notre Dame. Call it the Private Ten. Baptists, Presbyterians, Christians, Methodists, Catholics, and secularists; what a mix!!!
I believe Baylor should wait a while before it joins up with any group and maybe pick TCU, Boice State, Houston, Rice, BYU, Notre Dame, Vanderbilt, Texas State, New Mexico, UAB, and call it The New SouthWest Conference There are probably a few more but I would be very selective
I like the idea of the texas eight. Cause baylor just can't compete in football in the big 12 they r good in everything else do away with their football program lol jk
Put the SWC back together. I used to love watching SWC teams play one another. The Big 12 has great teams, no doubt, but it is just not the same as watching the SWC teams play. It was local. <><
I'll play along... Big XII: Baylor From C-USA: Houston, Tulsa, Tulane, Rice From Mtn. West: TCU, New Mexico, BYU, Utah From Sun Belt: Troy, LA-Lafayette From Southland: Texas State (Div. 1)
TCU, North Texas, Sam Houston State, Mary-Hardin Baylor, Rice, Texas State, Stephen F Austin......the Texas Eight!
