Vitek’s BBQ in South Waco continues to receive national attention, with The Travel Channel reportedly visiting the barbecue emporium to shoot footage for its show titled “101 Tastiest Places to Chowdown,” which visits good eating joints coast to coast.

Julie Vitek Keith, proprietor of the restaurant at 1600 Speight Ave., said she does not yet know when the segment will air but promised to keep the Tribune-Herald posted.

Vitek’s sells such barbecue items as sliced beef, grilled turkey, jalapeno sausage and pulled pork.

But since 1983, it has become best known for its Gut Pak, which won a Cooking Channel “Best College Eats” poll in 2013.

The Gut Pak includes Fritos, cheese, chopped beef, beans, sausage, bread, pickles, onions and jalapenos.

Keith and her crew hauled the Gut Pak Shak to the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl in Arizona, where they gave away samples to Baylor University fans who made the trip westward to watch the Bears play in their first Bowl Championship Series football game on Jan. 1 following an 11-win season.
