Sometimes you don't have to look far for people worthy of a tribute. The Waco Jazz Orchestra has performed many tributes to jazz and Big Band icons over its 30+ year history, but will honor some of its founding players at its Monday night concert.

The WJO will honor late players who helped found the group in 1985 — Ed Burleson, Nick Klaras, Joe Johnson, Joe Kendricks and Rusty McNeil — as well as an original who's still performing, Tommy Riggs.

The program features selections from the WJO's early years and, I'm guessing, maybe a few favorites from those honored.

It's a reminder that an artistic legacy isn't limited to the most famous in a field, but also by those who love something and give their time and talent to share with others.

The concert's at 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 1, at McLennan Community College's Ball Performing Arts Center. Admission is free.
