Some readers had asked last week why "Battle of the Sexes" didn't open in Waco where it had in other cities. I didn't know — because, Waco? — but suggested it might at a later date.

That later date is this week, with "Battle of the Sexes," the story of a 1973 tennis match between young star Billie Jean King (Emma Stone) and brash fading star Bobby Riggs (Steve Carell), opening this week.

The much-anticipated "Blade Runner 2049" also makes its debut and, for those who care about these sort of things, it's on Cinema Galaxy 16's IMAX screen. In addition to those two films, "The Mountain Between Us," "The Stray" and "My Little Pony: The Movie" are opening Friday.

As might be expected, a bunch of films are leaving this week to make room, which means a last call tonight and Thursday for (outside of a possible return at the discount theater) for "mother!," "Wind River," "Dunkirk," "Lucky Logan" and "The Glass Castle."
