The second shoe of the 25-year retrospectives of the Branch Davidian raid. siege and fire drops Thursday night with ABC's two-hour "Truth and Lies" episode at 8 p.m.

The trailer for the special focuses on survivors' accounts of life under David Koresh at the Davidian compound at Mount Carmel. I'm guessing the failed AFT raid and FBI-led siege will take up a good portion of the two-hour program, too.

CBS' "48 Hours: Secrets of Waco" aired last Friday and drew a sizable audience, winning its time slot with nearly 5 million viewers.

Later this month comes the six-part "Waco" mini-series on the Paramount Network beginning Jan. 24. It stars Taylor Kitsch as David Koresh and Michael Shannon as FBI negotiator Gary Noesner.

The second trailer (at the above link) seems sympathetic to Koresh, but I've seen the first few episodes and it doesn't dance around his sleeping with other Davidians' wives.

It would be nice to see a movie set in Central Texas to look that way, but "Waco" plants Mount Carmel in a flat, dusty plain with (in an opening tracking shot) blue mountains on the horizon. Reviews are embargoed until several days before the mini-series starts, so more later . . .
