"Fixer Upper" wins Emmy nomination

"Fixer Upper's" Joanna and Chip Gaines

HGTV's "Fixer Upper" got a touch of critical attention to add to its considerable popularity with its first Emmy Award nomination from the Television Academy. Nominations were announced Thursday morning.

The home renovation reality show starring Chip and Joanna Gaines was among five television series nominated in the "Structured Reality Program" category. It joins PBS' "Antiques Roadshow," Food Network's "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives," ABC's "Shark Tank," Spike TV's "Lip Sync Battle" and TLC's "Who Do You Think You Are."

"Shark Tank" has won the category for the last three years.

Winners will be announced Sept. 17 in a broadcast hosted by Stephen Colbert and aired on CBS.
