And you thought Law & Order was impressive …
After spending a long, long, long, long, long day at the county courthouse Tuesday, I have all new respect for everyone in and around the courts system. Really.
I spent the entire day in a temporary injunction hearing listening to testimony on everything education-ish, from the number of people in school board committee meetings to the size of the sixth grade class at Wiley Middle School. True, I’m an education nerd, so I found a certain percentage of this stuff interesting. But by 3 in the afternoon, I started imagining things that might possibly be more enjoyable than sitting through 2 more hours of testimony. Like sticking hot, pointy things in my eyes, or bamboo under my fingernails or spending five hours in a stalled elevator with Rush Limbaugh and/or Carrot Top.
That’s when I gained a huge appreciation for people who sit through this kind of thing everyday. First, I have to give props to Tommy Witherspoon, our courts reporter, who makes a life out of sitting through court cases, and does so on a journalist’s salary. Much love, Tommy.
Next, you can think what you want to about Judge Jim Meyer’s decision to grant the temp. restraining order to reopen Wiley, but the man is clearly super human. While folks all over the courtroom began to nod off Tuesday afternoon, Meyer was still going strong, on top of his game and still looking interested. This man has my undying admiration for that not-so-minor feat.
I’m also in extreme awe of the court reporter, whose fingers never stop going, who sometimes closes her eyes and keeps on typing in what looks like this lovely zen state. She rocks.
And lastly, the officers all over the courthouse are super sweet with great senses of humor. They make that strangely adorned, marble-floored building a comfy place to be.
I’m glad to have found the glass half full aspect of the courthouse, especially considering I’ll be spending the rest of my life (or at least this week) at this TI hearing.

Much love, Tommy Witherspoon? Go ask the Waco Police Department how much they “love” Tommy Witherspoon? Slanted Tommy Witherspoon may be the only person “more hated” Downtown than Fred.

Ahh, Fred, your ignorance is still going strong.
Been around the police department, sheriff’s office and courthouse myself quite a bit. Tommy sometimes may write things that upset, but he has the respect of law enforcement. He has this thing called integrity, Fred.
Do you know anything about integrity or respect, Fred? I doubt it.

Welcome one and all to a new Club. It’s called: The Fred-feeds-you-crap-that-you-actually-read Club. You are considered a full-fledged member when you “respond” to the crap that Fred feeds you. Fred has a way of staying in your head doesn’t he?

Hey Wendy? So now your attacking the NRA (National Rifle Association)? You’re in the middle of Texas and you’re attacking the SACRED right to “keep and bear arms”? Good luck. That’s like trying to stop gambling in Las Vegas. America is the most armed society on the face of the Earth…..and we have the murder victims to prove it. You’re going to get the gun-freaks “up in arms” Wendy. An old dead Nazi (probably a charter member of the NRA) once said: “you can have my gun when you pry it out of my cold dead fingers”. If you seek serious negative response…….keep attacking guns and the gun-freaks.

I’ve sat in on court hearings, and believe you me, the prolonged sitting is not nice to the hiney. There have been trials like O.J., and Tate/LaBianca murders that would have driven me crazy.
When called for jury duty, I hope to be put on a one day jury. My goal each day is to remind myself that I work for God. It actually gives me a jump-start when the Holy Spirit reminds me of that. :) <><

You looked tired on the TV news last night when they filmed people coming out of the courtroom.

Viewer, yes, I’m exhausted, thanks for noticing :) Maybe I’ll ask my friends Sara T. and Dallas how to look fresh-faced when you actually feel mind-numbed. But really, I’m having a great time, I’m that much of a nerd. My esteemed friend calls me the dungeon master of public education dorkdom. What an honor!

Turning boring Court into fun? “To every job that must be done there is an element of fun, you find the fun and SNAP the job’s a game”-Mary Poppins (old school 1960s).

Downtown hates fred? Hahaha, he gives himself way too much credit. Nobody hates him or knows him or cares much about him. 11 posts on this blog topic, 5 of them are freds, and none are relevant. fred is like flatulence in an elevator, smelly, anonymous and of no real substance.

Hey Mark….you care enough to have devoted a fifty-two word paragraph to Fred. Freds-in-Marks-head. I fed you Freds-CRAP and you responded.
