Girls gone Waco

And I thought I was having all the fun Thursday night, sitting through a school board meeting. Apparently there folks around town having a much livelier time.

After I wrote my story, I stopped by the Shops at River Square Center to pick up some dinner and someone told me that there was Girls Gone Wild at Wild West. She didn’t specify whether this actually meant a film crew of that particular name brand or whether she just meant there were indeed females at the establishment who had gone completely undomesticated.

I was intrigued and the blogger in me was half tempted to wander down to that watering hole and see what the hubbub was about. Then, like a sign from God, a young woman passed in front of me on her way into Wild West wearing her best “my life’s goal is to be in a Toby Keith video” outfit. And I came to my senses and just headed home.

Driving down Austin Avenue, I noticed there seemed to be some very loud revival going on, north of 17th Street. Once again, I thought about stopping. I would probably have felt less awkward there than at Wild West. Alas, I was tired and kept driving.

On my way home it occurred to me, the people who say that there’s nothing to do in Waco are just plain wrong. Sure, the options might be a little odd, a little cheesy, but they’re there.

Yes, I heard that Girls Gone Wild was at Wild West too. But I thought it was months ago. They must’ve came back.

There are things to do in this town, its just sometimes it isn’t obvious and it depends, also, a lot on your age, and most particularly your back ground…

Wendy,

Heads up. Mark your calendar for Saturday, August 30th, Labor Day weekend. Jazzfest at Heritage Square. 7 bands. Headliner is Wayman Tisdale, of NBA and jazz fame. His CD is #1 on Billboard contemporary jazz charts. Check out his myspace page or website for music samples. Watch for the announcement. More “adult” stuff for the square :)…hope to see you there.

I have a question for all of you who say there is nothing to do in Waco. What exactly do you want to do? What would you be doing in another, larger city that you can’t do here? More concerts, shopping, a bar, a large park, a baseball game, some museums, or what? Say you lived in this fantastic city with lots “to do,” once you’ve done it all or gone broke trying, aren’t you just back in the same old spot you started in having to contend with your same old self and all your baggage? Just wondering….

Wendy: As a 32 year native of Waco, there is always something to do in this town. We have more things going on than most folks realize. Anna stated it better than I can and sometimes when you go to a special event and only see 200 folks there, it is because there are three other events and the rest of what would have been a large crowd are elsewhere taking advantage of everything interesting.

And by the way, to those who enjoy driving elsewhere, I think you all are nuts to spend gas money that could be spent much better in our hometown.

Thanks Wendy for always reminding us what a great place Waco is and how there is always something fun going on.

Is it just me or are there alot of butt-ugly women in Waco? You know…..the kind that look like the south end of a north bound mule? The kind that look like they had a head-on collusion with a Mack Truck and the truck lost?

Dale. That is definitely exciting entertainment news, to me at least. I am a smooth jazz fan and loved the jazz concert at the zoo last year. I will definitely be marking my calendar for that one. Thanks for the heads up! It should be a huge turn out.

Not to be mean, but your whole blog post is that you heard there was something going on but didn’t go? And then you saw something else going on but didn’t go there either?

Have some courage! …then report back.

Waco entertainment? Oxymoron.

Rattlesnake, point taken, but it was less about lack of courage and more about sheer exhaustion. Sometimes it’s hard to balance the education reporter and blogger hats on my sleepy head.
