New U2!

Pitchfork announces that “modestly successful Irish rock’n’roll band U2 have announced that their 12th album, No Line on the Horizon, will be released by Interscope on March 3, 2009 in North America. Brian Eno, Daniel Lanois, and Steve Lillywhite contributed production. It appears that will.i.am did not. Guess Kanye was wrong.

Billboard.com reports that the Horizon tracklist is expected to include ‘Moment of Surrender,’ ‘Unknown Caller’ and the title track.

Also, U2 were recently added to the list of contributors to the War Child benefit album Heroes, out in February.”

I was delighted to read that Eno, Lillywhite and (especially) Landois are back producing U2 — all did brilliant work with the band. I know there are people who routinely diss them because of their age … but when other groups who have been around as long as they (and there ain’t many) are either retired or happily enscounced in the “oldies” circuit, U2 continues to release, interesting, listenable, sometimes important music! Thanks for the U2 info, Van. As a Lillywhite lover, I’ll check out the new album. Has he also been working w/ Blue October?
