Some News
So Coldplay has again been accused of ripping off someone else’s music.
From the Times Online: “Last week, (Joe) Satriani filed a copyright infringement suit, at Los Angeles federal court, claiming “Viva La Vida” incorporates ‘substantial original portions’ of his 2004 instrumental “If I Could Fly.”
The feted guitarist, who has played alongside Mick Jagger, is seeking a jury trial, damages and ‘any and all profits’ attributable to the alleged copyright infringement.
Despite releasing a string of successful songs since they found fame in 2000, Viva La Vida is Coldplay’s biggest ever hit. It went straight to No 1 on the UK charts when it was released in June.”
You decide.
Disclaimer: I think Coldplay is lame, so I’m with Satch on this one.
And here’s another video of a band, the Creaky Boards, claiming Coldplay ripped them off. This is just getting sad, really.

Oh my — I hadn’t heard the two versions back to back. That’s worse than the George Harrison/Chiffons “He’s So Fine”/”My Sweet Lord” embroglio a few years ago.
I hope Cold Play has a good copyright lawyer!
