Taking a look inside Texas Football
If you’re a Texas high school football fan, you’ve probably already picked up a copy of Dave Campbell’s Texas Football, which hit newsstands this week.
Football season is still two months away, but it’s not too early to start breaking down the districts. Here’s whom TF sees taking down the area’s league titles:
12-5A: Copperas Cove (ranked 25th in state)
16-4A: Midway (8th in state)
7-3A: China Spring (10th in state)
19-3A: Mexia (19th in state)
20-3A: Athens
24-3A: Rockdale (15th in state)
16-2A: Troy (16th in state)
20-2A: Franklin
21-1A: Dawson
22-1A: Lovelady (13th in state)
25-1A: Goldthwaite (12th in state)
6-man Div. 1 District 13: Abbott (5th in state)
6-man Div. 1 District 14: Trinidad
6-man Div. 2 District 14: Star (4th in state)
6-man Div. 2 District 15: Walnut Springs (7th in state)
No district predictions were made for private schools.

Texas High School Football is like a religion. Those of us who played it,coached it and still involved as school administrators like myself cannot wait for the new season.Every player and coach has the hope and desire to become a champion, however, what it teaches us is life’s lesson.Failure is not an option, alway’s do your best in whatever you do and sometimes you have to work at it.

To: Wesley….Texasfootball.com(which is Dave Campbell’s) shows the final top 25(not preseaon) rankings with Carthage @ #1, Prosper @ #2, LaVega @ #3….China Spring @ #12.
Even so,China Spring is overrated, considering the measley schedule they have. They have had a few/couple good years, but cannot consistently compete in the old 17-3A that had LaVega, Mexia, Marlin, Connally…etc, over the many, many years.
However, 5A is football to watch…where the competition level increases dramatically. That leaves Waco area out of the fun.

I think district 22-1A should say Mart, not Lovelady, that must be a typo.

I would like to say good luck to all of the young men who give there all and all to the schools they represent. I encourage each of you to enjoy this time, you will never get these days again. I never played football but I was in band, and loved to yell and cheer from the stands. I still attend as many games as I can. I will always support young people in any endeavour that inspires teamwork, and a good attitude. No matter what the media will write this season EVERYONE is a winner because you had the courage to try.
