9:48 PM: Mart 28, Hull-Daisetta 0. Final. Panthers face (8-3) next week.

9:23 PM: A quiet 3rd quarter ends in the Mart-Hull-Daisetta game without a fake field goal, band on the field or other wackiness. Still 28-zip Panthers.

8:42 PM: Halftime: NAVASOTA — Sean Farmer returned a punt 43 yards for a touchdown and threw a three-yard strike on a fake field goal to help Mart to a 28-0 lead over Hull-Daisetta at halftime.

Anthony Martin and Xavier Williams scored on runs of 27 and one yards, respectively, as the Panthers completely dominated after Hull-Daisetta’s 14-play drive on the opening drive of the game resulted in no points.

The Bobcats went 38 yards on that march but the Panthers allowed only 10 the rest of the half. Mart racked up 144 yards of total offense.

8:40 PM: Abilene Wylie beat Seminole, 28-16, by the way. They’re 10-2 — and that’s who China Spring faces next. Remember that earlier this year, Wylie beat La Vega by 2.

8:34 PM: Mart dips into its bag of tricks, with a fake field goal. Xavier Williams, the holder, flips back to Farmer, who threads the needle to a well-covered Colby Summers, who makes a sliding catch in the end zone. The 10-yard pass makes it 28-0 Mart with 0:16 on the clock before the half.

8:27 PM: China Spring 17, Burkburnett 3. Final.

8:00 PM: Mart goes up 21-0 as Xavier Williams converted two third downs on the drive, the second with an 18-yard run on third-and-1 to the Hull-Daisetta 1-yard line before the QB punched it in. 4:39 2Q.

7:59 PM: Mart’s Anthony Martin scores on a 27-yard run (Scheafer kick) to put the Panthers up 14-0. Mart gets a fumble at the Hull-Daisetta 38 and take three plays to strike paydirt. 9:27 2Q.

7:59 PM: With 10:13 left in the 4th, Mike Hicks scores on a 67-yard pass from Brian Bell. Hicks got great blocking downfield from Reece Meador.

An interception by the Cougars’ Matt Frazier set China Spring up with good field position, and Jerome Lloyd scored on a nine-yard run to make it 17-3. 7:29 left in the game.

7:52 PM: Jason Orts reports after the 1st quarter: Mart has run 4 plays and has 3 total yards of offense. Hull-Daisetta had a 14-play drive that lasted nearly 7 minutes come up with nothing when quarterback Sam Elliot was sacked on fourth down.

7:49 PM: Mart’s Sean Farmer breaks off a great 43-yard punt return (Matthew Schaefer kick) to get the Panthers on the board. Jason Orts’ observations: Farmer fielded the punt on a bounce, took it straight up the middle, was blasted about the 35-yard line but managed to spin out of it and there was nothing but green down the left sideline. 7-0 Panthers. 1:03 1Q.

7:41 PM: James French answers with a 47-yard field goal. Brice Cherry says it would have been good from at least 55. 6:21 3rd.

7:33 PM: Hooray — somebody scored! Burkburnett’s Derek Devereaux kicks a 30-yard field goal. 8:48 left in the 3rd. China Spring is 3-0 behind.

6:49 PM: So it’s halftime at the China Spring game and the score is 0-0 — sound familiar? Burkburnett has missed field goals of 48 and 34 yards, in addition to the blocked 22-yarder.

6:24 PM: Brice Cherry will be providing us updates from the China Spring-Burkburnett game tonight: China Spring’s Jerome Lloyd blocked a short field goal attempt. Still 0-0, two minutes left in the 1st.

5:20 PM: Just a reminder that we have 2 games left tonight:

And here are the updated pairings as we know ‘em. If you know about next week’s sites and times, leave a comment on this post or click here to shoot us an e-mail.

4:43 PM: And that one’s gone final. La Vega wins 56-8. The Pirates get undefeated Navasota (10-0) next week.

4:42 PM: Thanks for the promotion, La Vega radio guys on 89.9 — but you’ve gotta refresh your browser to see the score updates.

4:28 PM: A 40-yard TD pass from backup QB sophomore Devon McGowan to Garrett Nunley makes it 56-8 La Vega. 60-yard drive for the Pirates.

That’s La Vega’s biggest score of the year, BTW. It’s the 6th time the Pirates have topped 40 points. And it’ll likely be the 5th time they’ve held the opposition to single digits.

4:20 PM: Aaron Brandon scores La Vega’s 7th TD of the day from 34 yards out. Eddy Gonzales’ boot makes it 49-8 Modoc. That’s at the end of a 94-yard drive for the Pirates.

4:18 PM: Midway 35, Texarkana Texas 10. Final.

The Panthers’ll face Highland Park (11-1) at 2 p.m. Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, at Corsicana’s Tiger Field.

4:17 PM: La Vega injury report: Tim Kemp is out of the game with a knee injury and Tim Garner is out with an ankle injury.

4:16 PM: La Vega 42, Chapel Hill 8. End of 3rd.

4:12 PM: Midway goes up 35-10 on a Holmes-to-Graham 16-yard TD strike. Midway 35-10 with 2:20 left.

4:09 PM: Looks like the Chilton Pirates couldn’t keep that momentum going. Ganado wins, 21-6 final. Pirates finish their season at 7-5.

4:02 PM: Panthers in control, reports Chad Conine: John Hubert drives in the dagger with a 70-yard touchdown run. He now has 152 rushing yards and three TDs on 19 carries. Midway 28-10, 6:39 left.

4:01 PM: And Daxton Swanson does it on the offensive side, breaking free for a 73-yard TD. La Vega cruising, 42-8.

3:58 PM: Midway scores on 13 pass from Holmes to Trey Graham. Texas High committed back-to-back personal foul penalties after a controversial no-call on third-and-10 from the 20. Tigers best receiver/DB Roderick Collier ejected. Midway 21-10, 10:16 left. — Chad Conine in Mesquite

3:57 PM: La Vega defender Daxton Swanson makes a big tackle on 4th down to make Chapel Hill turn it over on downs. Pirates will start driving from their own 16. 7:11 3rd.

3:36 PM: Halftime stats from La Vega, where the Pirates lead Tyler Chapel Hill, 35-8:

La Vega —

  • 11 first downs
  • 3 penalties for 27.5 yards
  • Rushing: Chris Parr 7-105, Chad Ward 5-42, Danzel Wilson 5-61
  • Passing: Wilson 3-6, 30 yards

Chapel Hill —

  • 7 firs downs
  • 7 penalties for 65 yards
  • Rushing: Matthew Tucker 13-106
  • Passing: 1-3, INT

3:30 PM: Chilton looks “like a completely different team,” Jason Orts says from Navasota. The Pirates take the opening kickoff of the second half and march 65 yards in 14 plays to score on a Demerius Randolph 3-yard run (2-pt. run failed). The key play on the drive was a 23-yard pass from Randolph to Artikus Simpson on fourth-and-12 from the Ganado 26. It was Chilton’s first completion of the day. 5:14 3Q.

3 PM: Here’s Jason Orts’ halftime report from Navasota: “Running back Kevin Smith scored on runs of two, one and three yards to give Ganado a 21-0 halftime lead over Chilton in a Class 1A Division II area-round game.

The Pirates had only 25 yards of total offense in the first half on 19 plays. Ganado took advantage of two short fields — one caused by a Chilton fumble, the other by a short punt — scoring touchdowns on drives of 13 and 21 yards.

The Indians had 127 yards of total offense. Smith is the game’s leading ground-gainer with 48 yards on 18 carries.”

2:50 PM: Chilton’s in a deep hole now, as Smith’s third TD, a three-yarder, gives Ganado a 21-0 lead with just 17 seconds left in the half.

Jason Orts: “The Indians only had to cover 21 yards after a quick Pirate three-and-out and short punt. It took them five plays to reach the end zone.”

2:43 PM: Ganado has extended its lead over Chilton to 14-0. Kevin Smith has his second TD of the game, a one-yard plunge.

Jason Orts reports: “Ganado drove 62 yards in 11 plays, the biggest a 25-yard pass from Donovan Foster to Glenn Sparkman, who made a spectacular diving catch at the Chilton 1-yard line on fourth-and-1.”

2:38 PM: Chapel Hill gets on the board with a Matthew Tucker touchdown run, and he adds the 2-point conversion run. 28-8 La Vega in the second quarter.

2:34 PM: Midway takes the lead. “Hubert scores his second touchdown on one of the most tenacious touchdown runs I’ve ever seen. It was Earl Campbell-esque and covered 14 yards,” Chad Conine says. Midway 14-10 with 8:42 left in the half.

2:30 PM: Parr does it again. A 39-yard touchdown. It’s 28-0 La Vega, still in the first quarter.

2:29 PM: Chris Parr has his second touchdown of the game to give La Vega a 21-0 lead.

2:28 PM: Texas High turns a Hubert fumble at the Midway 40 into a 37-yard field goal by Austin Gibson and a 10-7 lead with four seconds left in the first quarter.

2:22 PM: Ganado takes a 7-0 lead on Chilton early in the second quarter.

Jason Orts reports: Kevin Smith scores on a two-yard run. The Indians fell on a Chilton fumble at the Pirates’ 13-yard line and took four plays to reach the end zone.

2:20 PM: Midway and Texas High are tied at 7 in the first quarter.

Chad Conine reports: Midway’s Ahmad Dixon got the Panthers going with 67-yard kickoff return to start the game. Then it took a four-and-10 pass from Corey Holmes to Anthony Betters to get Midway moving. John Hubert ran 16 yards for a touchdown putting Midway ahead 7-0 with 10:35 left in the first quarter.

Texas High answers with a 12-play 60-yard scoring drive. Tigers QB Nathan Sorenson scores the TD on a 1-yard dive. 7-7 4:47 left in the first quarter.

2:15 PM: La Vega has jumped out to a 14-0 lead on Chapel Hill.

The radio announcers for KBDE 89.9 FM say running back Chris Parr is back in the lineup for La Vega after the McLennan County district attorney’s office said it would not pursue aggravated robbery charges against him this week.

We’re awaiting our first updates today from the 2 p.m. games:

Midway (10-1) vs. Texarkana Texas High (9-1) at Mesquite’s Memorial Stadium

La Vega (9-2) vs. Tyler Chapel Hill (9-1) at Mesquite’s Hanby Stadium

Chilton (7-4) vs. Ganado (6-3) at Navasota

Thank you so much for your playoff blogs. I wish they did something like that down here. We really appreciate your coverage of the games between Burton-Bosqueville and Chilton-Ganado. Our local coverage is never this detailed, especially since 27-1A teams were playing farther away than they normally do. Kudos to the Waco area also as they have always had great football from 5A all they way down to 6-man. Thanks again and I will use you as a reference in the future. Your website was also the first source that I found that had the site and time for the Ganado-Chilton game…nothing down here till three days after that…great job!!!! Good luck to all of the playoff teams left….Go Indians!!! one happy reader from Ganado, TX
