10:36 PM: Bremond 49, West Hardin 8. Final. Tigers get the winner of Simms Bowie (7-3) and Cayuga (9-2).
10:33 PM: Highland Park had a scare, but beat Kimball 24-7 tonight. That’s who Midway would face if they beat Texarkana Texas on Saturday. The Panthers’ next-next-round opponent, Longview, cruised to a 49-22 win over Lancaster tonight.
10:31 PM: Star won, 101-56, so that’s what Walnut Springs has to look forward to next week.
10:24 PM: Reicher 34, Dallas Lutheran 13. Final.
Cougars play the Bryan St. Joseph-Lubbock Christian winner (likely Lubb.).
10:21 PM: Abbott 56, Lometa 22. Panthers play Calvert next week. Yum, six-man.
10:19 PM: Caddo Mills 37, McGregor 17. Final.
10:13 PM: Mexia was unable to convert on their possession, turning the ball over on downs. Gilmer gets the ball back and scores. Gilmer 50 Mexia 36 with 1:50 remaining. — says Chris in the comments
10:10 PM: According to sixmanfootball.com, Walnut Springs gets a thrilling 48-42 win as Sidney fumbles on the one yard line with less than a minute to play.
Walnut will play the Leveretts Chapel-Star winner.
10:03 PM: Lorena’s on the board in the 4th, but trails 42-7 to Carthage.
10:02 PM: According to Chris in the comments: Gilmer 43 Mexia 36 with 4:30 left in the 4th qtr. Gilmer went for the 1st on a 4th and 2 and the Blackcat defense stuffs them at the line of scrimmage. Mexia ball with a chance to pull out a huge upset.
10:01 PM: That TAPPS game at Floyd Casey ended up Frisco Legacy 14, Shine St. Paul 13, by the way.
9:59 PM: Burton 41, Bosqueville 27. Final.
9:54 PM: Looks like Bosqueville can’t stop Burton’s attack. Daniel Patterson’s 27-yard touchdown run puts the Panthers up 41-28. Jason Orts says Burton is 4-for-5 on third downs in the second half and it converted on fourth down after the one it failed to pick up. 3:28 4Q.
9:49 PM: Cove 16, Naaman Forest 9. Final. Bulldawgs get the Lufkin-Cy Ridge winner next (Saturday game).
9:46 PM: Guy on sixmanfootball.com says Walnut Springs is down 42-40 to Sidney with about 4 minutes left. What’s the over-under on the number of TDs that’ll be scored in the next 4 minutes? Like 6?
9:44 PM: Bremond update: Tigers are killing West Hardin, 43-0 in the 3rd.
9:43 PM: Mexia has narrowed the gap, but still trails Gilmer 36-22 with 1:23 left in the 3rd, according to Chris in the comments. Thanks!
9:40 PM: Stop me if you’ve heard this one before. Blackburn rolls to his right and finds Jorgenson along the sideline in the end zone. Jorgenson’s 7-yard pass from Blackburn and David Johnson’s 2-point pass from Blackburn pull Bosqueville to within 35-27 behind Burton. 8:22 in the game. — Jason Orts
9:38 PM: In Region II of Class 4A, Longview’s handling Lancaster, 35-7 and Highland Park has opened up a 24-7 lead on Dallas Kimball. Those are Midway’s next 2 opponents, if they win.
9:37 PM: Naaman Forest creeps up on Cove, now the Dawgs lead 16-9 late in the game.
9:36 PM: Nathan Jeffery scores again for Caddo. 37-17 Foxes with 1:49 left in the 3rd.
9:35 PM: Final: Calvert 56, Milford 8.
9:34 PM: Peyton Fisk edges McGregor closes on a 68-yard TD strike from Larry Smith. Caddo Mills leads 30-17 over the Dogs.
9:32 PM: Reicher is pouring it on, as Nick Castillo scores on a 55-yard pass from Cluley. Cougars lead 34-13, 11:12 3rd.
9:30 PM: Guess Cove scored a safety? It’s 16-3 now. And Alamo Heights is threatening Killeen: now 19-16 Roos. Both games in the 4th.
9:26 PM: Total plays in the 3rd quarter: Burton 17, Bosqueville 1. Yep, Jason Orts tells us that Bosqueville fumbled on first play of its last drive and Burton went 37 yards in six plays to go up 35-19.
9:23 PM: Cove’s up 14-3 in the 4th now.
9:22 PM: Longview’s leading 28-7 and Highland Park is separating a little bit, 17-7.
9:21 PM: Burton’s Brandon Patterson puts the Panthers up 28-19 with an 11-yard TD run. It came at the end of an 11-play, 54-yard drive that took 6:23 off the clock. Jason Orts reports the key play was a 16-yard run by quarterback Bobby Mathis on third-and-15 on which he broke about five tackles and kept the drive alive. 5:37 3Q .
9:20 PM: Killeen is no longer pitching a shutout as Alamo Heights gets on the board. Roos are up 19-8 in the 3rd.
9:14 PM: In the 4th, the DMN says Cove is hanging on with a 7-3 lead on Naaman Forest.
9:11 PM: Carthage is leaving Lorena behind, 35-0, in the 2nd.
9:09 PM: McGregor’s letting it slip away: Ryan Calendar gets into the end zone on a 77-yard TD pass for Caddo Mills. 30-10 Foxes.
9:04 PM: Calvert 12 Milford 0 late in the 1st. That oughta be a Calvert-Abbott showdown next week, a rematch of the 2002 state semifinal as the Trojans were en route to the state crown.
9:03 PM: We expect that if Midway wins tomorrow, the Panthers will meet Highland Park. But the Scots are only leading Dallas Kimball 10-7 in the 3rd, according to the Dallas Morning News scoreboard.
Next up for the Panthers, in the Region II final, would be perennial power Longview. The Lobos lead 15-4A champ Lancaster 21-0 at the half.
9:02 PM: Abbott 35, Lometa 8 in the 2nd, according to our good friends at News Channel 25. You can check out their video highlight reels on WacoTrib.com after the games all weekend — just click here.
8:57 PM: Reicher 28, Dallas Lutheran 13. Halftime.
8:56 PM: Out at Floyd Casey Stadium in Waco, Frisco Legacy is leading Shiner St. Paul 14-7 at the half. Waco’s hosting bunches of TAPPS action this weekend, including a game at Waco ISD, 2 at Reicher’s J.J. Kearns Field and even Parkview is hosting what I would presume is its first postseason game ever at the new Pacer Field.
8:53 PM: Jason Orts files from halftime at the Bosqueville game: COLLEGE STATION — A missed extra point and dropped pass on a two-point conversion have proved costly for Bosqueville, which trails Burton, 21-19.
Burton’s Daniel Patterson rushed for 109 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries, while Bosqueville’s Blaze Blackburn has 152 yards and three scores through the air.
Blackburn found Nathan Jorgenson for TD strikes of 10 and five yards before Hunter Perry caught a 21-yard score with 15 seconds left in the first half to draw the Bulldogs within two.
8:52 PM: Winnsboro 14, Troy 9 at the break.
8:40 PM: We don’t cover ‘em much, but we hear the Killeen Kangaroos are shutting out Alamo Heights in the 2nd. Hmm.
8:39 PM: Hearing through the grapevine that Carthage is shutting out Lorena, 21-0, in the 2nd.
8:38 PM: Reicher’s playing a leisurely game of pitch-and-catch as Stephen Harrison scores on another Cluley pass, this one for 20 yards. 28-76 Cougars with 4:17 left in the half.
8:37 PM: Hunter Perry narrows the gap with 0:15 left in the half on a 21-yard TD pass from Blaze Blackburn. Perry adds the XP to make it 21-19 Burton.
8:36 PM: Travis Block tacks on a 22-yard field goal for Caddo Mills. It’s 23-10 Foxes over McGregor at the half.
8:30 PM: The Cougar offense doesn’t take a series off as Stephen Harrison hauls in a 62-yard touchdown pass from Kenneth Cluley. A comfortable 21-7 lead for Reicher midway through the 2nd.
8:29 PM: Well, that didn’t last long. Daniel Patterson of Burton finds daylight for a 49-yard touchdown run. Burton leads Bosqueville 21-12 with just over a minute left.
8:27 PM: Bosqueville scores on a similar play to its first TD as Blaze Blackburn rolls our right and finds Nathan Jorgenson along the sideline in the end zone on fourth-and-goal. That was a 14-play, 71-yard drive ending in a 5-yard TD pass that took 6:26 off the clock. 3:33 left in the half after the kick fails. Dogs trail 14-12.
8:26 PM: Caddo Mills’ Jeremy Fowler gives the Foxes a double-digit lead over McGregor with a 4-yard rushing score. 2:03 left in the half.
8:21 PM: We also hear Mexia’s trailing Gilmer, 21-7, in the 2nd.
8:20 PM: Dallas Lutheran pulls within a score of Reicher on an 8-yard Ben Hartley run. Kick failed, and it’s 14-6 Cougars at the 9:30 mark before the break.
8:13 PM: Cove has finally scored — 7-3 in the 2nd.
8:10 PM: Despite losing a drive to a red-zone fumble, Reicher still leads Dallas Lutheran 14-0 after Matt Pineda’s 21-yard TD catch from QB Kenneth Cluley. 2:40 1st up Alvarado-way.
8:08 PM: McGregor’s Dirk Gerhardt boots a 32-yard field goal to pull the Dogs within 3. It’s 13-10 Caddo Mills (they missed one of the earlier PATs).
8:06 PM: 5A alert: Cove’s trailing Naaman Forest, 3-0, in the 2nd quarter.
7:57 PM: That whole not-playing-defense thing might come back to bite Bosqueville. Burton goes 64 yards in 10 plays, capped by Daniel Patterson’s 5-yard run. Deodrick Bradley’s kick makes it 14-6 at 1:34 1Q.
7:50 PM: Jason Orts reports from Consol that Bosqueville’s Blaze Blackburn rolled right and found Nathan Jorgenson working the sideline for a 10-yard TD pass. Jorgenson tapped his toes just in bounds and just beyond the goal line. Kick failed, and it’s 7-6 Burton at 6:44 1Q.
7:47 PM: Caddo Mills’ Nathan Jeffery is doing his best John Hubert impression with an 80-yard run. Oof, Bulldogs. 14-7 Foxes after 12 more seconds.
7:44 PM: The McGregor Bulldogs bite back with a 67-yard pass to Peyton Fisk from QB Larry Smith. This one’s tied at 7 with 8:59 left in the opening period.
7:40 PM: Burton 6, Bosqueville 0: Brandon Patterson’s 1-yard run puts the Bulldogs down early. Burton went on a whopping 9-yard drive after Bosqueville fumbled the opening kickoff. 10:53 1st.
7:39 PM: McGregor down early as Caddo Mills’ star back Nathan Jeffery breaks free for a 46-yard TD run. 7-0 for the fleet Foxes.
On the radio:
- McGregor vs. Caddo Mills, 1660-AM (KRZI)
- Mexia vs. Gilmer, KRQX-FM (104.9)
It’s a full slate tonight: And while you might be tempted to say the glamour games are tomorrow — notably Midway, La Vega and China Spring — tonight’s games feature intriguing clashes between McGregor and Caddo Mills, Bosqueville and Burton, just to name a couple.
Our experts were divided on many matchups this week, reflecting the tough playoff roads for our Central Texas teams.
And, as always, there’s no better preview of all of the weekend’s action than Jason Orts’ High School Preview (TM). I have it on good authority that he stayed up late writing it, so you oughta read it.
Welcome to The 5th Quarter for Week 12!
In addition to our high school ticker and constantly updated scoreboard of area finals, those of us who spend Friday nights collecting info in the Trib newsroom will try to highlight the standout performances, big upsets, surprising stats and any other interesting tidbits that cross our desks.
But that’s only half the story. We’re stuck indoors — but you’re out there, at more than 50 football games every week. So we want you to write! Comment on the post with anything from on or off the field that’s weird, unusual, spectacular, hilarious or downright interesting, so that all the Centex high school football fans can get the full scoop on what’s going on.

I’m home ill and trying to get a score update on Naaman and Cove. My son’s playing and I can’t be there. What’s the score update? What quarter? Thanks. Is there an online radio station I can listen to from a distance?
WacoTrib.com staff: The Dallas Morning News scoreboard is your best bet: They say Cove holds a 7-3 lead in the 4th. We’re keeping tabs on that game in the blog as well.
