Thursday Night Lights (thanks, Ike)
9:58 p.m. — Rosebud-Lott’s Flores dives for a first down. The Cougars will be able to run the clock for a 12-7 victory.
9:44 p.m. — Incomplete pass. Rosebud-Lott takes over at their own 10 leading 12-7 with 1:41 left.
9:41 p.m. — Normangee, trailing 12-7, is facing a fourth-and-goal from the Rosebud-Lott 10 with 1:51 remaining.
9:25 p.m. — Rosebud-Lott QB Ernesto Flores capped a 7-play, 81-yard drive by scrambling 15 yards for a touchdown. But Normangee stopped Flores trying to run for the two-point conversion. Rosebud-Lott 12, Normangee 7, 8:25 left in the fourth quarter.
9:16 p.m. — End of the third quarter. Normangee 7, Rosebud-Lott 6.
9:03 — Normangee’s Jordan Mullinnix dove across the goal line for a one-yard touchdown run and Whitley Reed added the extra point to push the Panthers ahead, 7-6, with 7:22 left in the third quarter.
8:31 p.m. — A mid-half rain — maybe the first sign of Hurricane Ike or maybe just rain — slowed the action down in the second quarter. The bottom dropped out and drenched the field for about 10 minutes. It stopped raining in time for Normangee to make its first trip past the Rosebud-Lott 25 late in the second quarter, but Cougars linebacker Austin Pomykal dropped Panthers running back Jordan Mullinnix for a five-yard loss on third-and-2 in the final minute of the half. Pomykal’s stop squashed the Panthers’ chance to put points on the board before intermission. Rosebud-Lott 6, Normangee 0 at the half.
7:58 p.m. — After a fast-moving and scoreless first quarter, Rosebud-Lott gets on the scoreboard first as DeAndre Thompson dives over the goal line for a touchdown. The kick failed, making it Rosebud-Lott 6, Normangee 0.
7:05 p.m. — I’m here at Rosebud-Lott’s Cougar Stadium for some Thursday night football courtesy of Hurricane Ike. Word earlier this afternoon was that Highway 77 was already getting clogged by traffic coming out of Houston. From what I could tell driving down to Travis, Texas (home of Rosebud-Lott High School) there were more cars than normal headed the other direction on 77, though not enough to slow anybody down too much.
