Bump set spike, volleyball is here
STORY
So volleyball season is here. It’s not like it snuck up on me. I knew it was coming. But I have to admit I probably missed a great match last night between Temple and Midway.
Temple outlasted the 4A defending champion Pantherettes in five games, 25-20, 23-25, 25-22, 21-25, 15-12. What a way to start the year. I’m sure both of these squads will rack up plenty of wins this season.
I think I would’ve preferred to watch the Tem-Cats vs. Pantherettes rather than the beach volleyball match between the U.S. and Cuban teams last night on the Olympic coverage. I’m not a huge fan of two-on-two volleyball as the hitters are able to easily place the ball away from the two players on the other side. On the other hand, six-a-side volleyball is one of my favorite sports to cover and I’ll hopefully see more of it this fall as Brice Cherry will be covering more Baylor sports.
But it will be a little bit before I see a live volleyball game, I fear. The duty of hitting as many high school practices as possible to prepare for football season calls.

The new “side-line” rule should have many Red Flags thrown at loud-mouth Coach Mark Bell of China Spring. Coach Bell’s loud profanity can be heard up in the stands (by children and little old lady Sunday School teachers). Mark Bell loves to run out on the field…..thus the Red Flags will come raining down. I’m not sure who has the biggest and loudest mouth? Coach Bell or his wife (Mrs. Bell…..a bull-horn gal indeed).
