She Knows How to Win
Local softball fans have known that Midway’s Sherry Rogers has presided over one of the area’s top programs for some time.
But try this on for size — Rogers isn’t just the winningest softball coach in Central Texas, but in all of Texas.
A Web site that follows Texas high school softball recently updated its rankings of coaching records, and Sherry is at the tip-top of the list, with 422 wins. In terms of winning percentage, only Brenham’s Wade Wilson — who has coached six fewer seasons — ranks above Sherry, with an .856 mark to Rogers’ .846.
What the site doesn’t say is that Rogers’ Pantherettes have dominated their district over the years like few teams possibly could. If memory serves, Midway has lost only two district games since 1993, an incomprehensible level of success.
