Bosqueville-West Sabine baseball

3:39 p.m. — Donesville. Bosqueville 18, West Sabine 2. Bosqueville leftfielder Blaze Blackburn squeezed the final out for the Bulldogs.

3:37 p.m. — There’s an RBI for Tigers starting pitcher Chase Malone. West Sabine, trying to avoid a run rule, has two on with one out and a run in in the fifth. Bulldogs lead 18-2.

3:29 p.m. — Here we go to the bottom of the fifth. If the Bulldogs can hold West Sabine to seven runs or less, this one’s over and Bosqueville will play for a state title at 4 p.m. tomorrow at Dell Diamond. Bulldogs lead, 18-1.

3:26 p.m. — Perry helps his cause with a single to left to drive in Samford. That’s a critical run. Bulldogs lead, 17-1.

3:23 p.m. — There’s a triple for Samford. If this doesn’t end in a run rule (which I’m convinced it will), he could go for the cycle with another at-bat. Bulldogs lead, 16-1.

3:15 p.m. — The Tigers get a hit in the fourth, but no runs. Nice play by Boen at third to end the inning. He fielded a grounder by West Sabine’s Jesse Moody and tries to tag Jacari Parks going to third. When Boen couldn’t tag Parks, he threw to first in time to force out Moody. Going to the fifth, Bulldogs leading, 14-1.

3:07 p.m. — The Bulldogs batted around again in the fourth (they’re really starting to mess up my scorebook, oh well). With a 13-run lead, I’ll be shocked if Bosqueville doesn’t win by run rule.

3:02 p.m. — Samford doubles to right to score Randolph and Boen. Perry singles to right to drive in Samford. The errors are really hurting West Sabine now as the Bulldogs have started hitting the ball. Bulldogs lead, 14-1.

3:00 p.m. — Another Tiger error, two more runs for the Bulldogs. McCormick and Kosar score on an errant throw to first, boosting the Bulldogs’ lead to 11-1. Could we be looking at a run-rule win?

2:58 P.M. — Another rally brewing for the Bulldogs. McCormick walked to lead off the fourth and Kosar followed with a single, then moves up on the throw to third. Runners at second and third, no out.

2:52 p.m. — The Tigers stole a run when McCormick caught Parks in a run down between first and second. But at this point, Bosqueville can afford to sacrifice a run if it means ending an inning. Headed to the fourth, Bulldogs leading, 9-1.

2:43 p.m. — Feight grounds out to end the Bulldogs’ second. But if Perry can keep throwing strikes, it looks very much like Bosqueville will advance to play Flatonia in the 1A state championship game.

2:38 p.m. — Errors are making the Tigers easy to tame. Perry just singled up the middle to drive in Carter, but the Bulldogs two runs in this inning are mostly due to five Tigers errors. Bulldogs lead, 9-0.

2:30 p.m. — Perry’s put runners on via an HBP and a walk. The Tigers have runners at first and third with two out. Not to worry for the Bulldogs, though, as Perry got Tigers’ No. 9-hole hitter to bounce one back to the mound. Perry threw to Kosar at first to get out of the second. Still Bulldogs, 7-0.

2:28 p.m. — There’s one of those defensive plays like I wrote about in today’s paper. West Sabine’s Luke Cordray pops up behind the plate, sending Bulldogs catcher D.J. McCormick back to the screen. McCormick twisted his body to make the catch in foul territory for the second out.

2:21 p.m. — Parks gets Johnson to ground into a fielder’s choice, ending the Bosqueville rally. Still the Bulldogs score seven runs on a pair of hits, seven walks and a Tiger error. Bulldogs lead, 7-0.

2:15 p.m. — Hunter Kosar draws a bases-loaded walk, scoring courtesy runner Brandon Due (for Perry). Bulldogs lead, 7-0. That’s it for West Sabine starter Chase Malone. Richard Parks is on to pitch for the Tigers.

2:11 p.m. — Well, Cody will have to wait for that historic feat. He grounded into fielder’s choice. Carter’s out at third, but Feight gets one RBI as Samford scored on the play. Bulldogs lead, 6-0.

2:09 p.m. — Perry walked. Somebody call the Elias Sports Bureau. Has a brother-sister combination ever hit grand slams in the baseball/softball state tournament? Because that’s the opportunity Cody Feight has as he comes to the plate with the bases loaded.

2:06 p.m. — Corbin Carter walked. That brings up Hunter Perry, meaning the Bulldogs have batted around.

2:04 — T.J. Samford single up the middle scores Randolph. Bulldogs lead, 4-0. Wait, there’s a passed ball. Shane Boen scores, 5-0.

2:02 p.m. — Wild pitch scores another as Johnson comes home. Bulldogs lead, 3-0.

2:00 p.m. — Aaron Randolph hit a bouncer to the second baseman, but he booted it to allow two Bulldogs to score. Bosqueville 2, West Sabine 0. Two on, still just one out.

1:57 p.m. — Johnson walks. Bases loaded, one out. There’s a meeting on the West Sabine mound.

1:56 p.m. — Hunter Kosar singled up the middle. Two on, one out with David Johnson at the plate.

1:55 p.m. — Bulldog catcher D.J. McCormick is aboard with a walk.

1:50 p.m. — Perry fans Tigers’ cleanup hitter R.J. Parks for the third out. On to the 2nd inning.

1:48 p.m. — West Sabine’s Chase Malone has the game’s first hit, a seeing-eye grounder up the middle. I thought for a minute that Feight was going to get there, but no. 1 on, 2 out. Tigers’ cleanup hitter at bat.

1:40 p.m. — Malone retired the Bulldogs in order in the top of the first. Bosqueville’s Corbin Carter worked a full count and was on his way to first when home plate umpire David Sellers rung him up for the second out. Then Perry almost beat out a grounder to third, but the throw arrived just in time.

1:19 p.m. — I’ve got the pitching matchup, it’s going to be Bosqueville’s Hunter Perry against West Sabine’s Chase Malone.

I also just chatted with 2007 Super Centex Female Athlete of the Year Raygan Feight. She seemed a little nervous for her little brother, Bulldogs shortstop Cody Feight. She said they just need to get used to the grandiose stage and they’ll be fine.

12:50 p.m. — Hey, everybody, your faithful scribe, Chad Conine, is on the scene here at Dell Diamond. I’ve satisfied my ever-present burrito urge (Chipotle and Freebirds since I arrived in the Capital City last night) and now I’m ready for baseball.

One slight hiccup, though, in the form of a rain delay. The start of the first semifinal of the UIL 1A State Tournament, between Flatonia and Seymour, was delayed by 45 minutes. It ended about 12:30, with Flatonia prevailing, 12-0, and as of 12:50 the Bosqueville and West Sabine teams are on the field having their pictures made before they take infield.

I’m still awaiting word on when the Bosqueville-West Sabine game will start. I’m guessing about 1:30. Oh wait, just got word, 1:35 p.m. is our new ETA for Bulldogs baseball.
