Baseball at its wildest
You don’t find many box scores more eye-popping than the one from the Abbott-Covington baseball game from Wednesday night.
Abbott defeated Covington, 25-14, despite trailing 14-10 heading into the seventh inning. If you’re doing the math in your head, that’s right — the Panthers exploded for 15 runs in the seventh. Talk about your big innings.
The teams combined for a staggering 28 hits and 19 errors in seven innings, more than some teams might register (in either category) in a month. Abbott outfielder Hunter Johnson had the most impressive night at the plate in a game filled with them, going 4-for-6 with two doubles and four RBIs.
On the flip side, Covington’s starting pitcher may see his ERA rise a bit after surrendering 24 earned runs in 6 2/3 innings.
There’s no truth to the rumor that the Owls and Panthers were actually playing six-man baseball.
